For the first time since Week 4 of last year, we had a sweep, as I took all three of the games Adam and I disputed. Unfortunately, I can't be fooled by the ESPN standings; some entry errors on Adam's part early in the year have him with two more wins than the site gives him credit for. Even with that though, he's now one game back of Geoffrey Clark for first place in the group. You can view a full breakdown of our picks in relation to each other here. The most eye-popping stat to me: Geoff is 9-2 in hero picks. That'll usually get you ahead.
Adam is actually back up in Chicago this week, and on Monday we got to carpool home from work and get into general sports yak. Adam said that he was overdue for his bad week, and now that it's come and gone, he hinted that it may be time for one of his weeks of going insane with his picks. He didn't actually go insane though, and groupthink must really have come into play here. We only have two disputed games out of 15 this week, which I'm pretty sure is a record.
Thursday Night
Kansas City Chiefs @ Oakland Raiders (+2.5)
Lucas: Chiefs. Let's bear in mind here that the only team to really own the Chiefs of late is the Steelers, and with that game behind them, they can get back to their domination of the AFC.
Adam: Chiefs. Giving 2.5 at home is not a good omen for the terrible looking future Las Vegas Raiders.
Sunday, Early Afternoon
Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Buffalo Bills (-2.5)
Lucas: Bills. A banged up Jameis Winston, even if he plays, takes a lot away from the Bucs, so I'll lay the points with Buffalo.
Adam: Bills. Don't really know much about either team. Just know I haven't heard much about Shady this year. Maybe this is his week.
Lucas note: I have Shady on my fantasy team. Other than a solid Week 1 showing, he's been either mediocre or bad. Hopefully the bye week helps.
Carolina Panthers @ Chicago Bears (+3.5)
Lucas: Panthers. Last I checked, the Panthers weren't an AFC North team. I'll lay the points and hope weird stuff doesn't happen.
Adam: Bears. Going with Da Bears riding high off the big win last week against the Ravens. Mitch looks the part and will continue to learn.
Tennessee Titans @ Cleveland Browns (+5.5)
Lucas: Titans. I'd make fun of the Indians again, but it doesn't seem fair given what's going on in the NLCS right now. Instead we have to go to the old fallback of making fun of the Browns, who will probably let a banged up Mariota go berserk on their secondary because it's the Browns.
Adam: Titans. We all saw what Murray did last week. He will be doing more Murray like things this week versus the Browns. Oh and how many starting QBs does this make for Cleveland?
Lucas note: First of all... 12 carries for 40 yards and a touchdown? I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. But to answer your question, let me consult The Jersey...
— Richard Knutts (@BoneCrusherMCMM) October 16, 2016Lucas note: Okay, adding in Deshone Kizer, Kevin Hogan, and Deshone Kizer a second time... 28?
New Orleans Saints @ Green Bay Packers (+5.5)
Lucas: Saints. Give Brett Hundley a full week to prepare and he should be okay. But I don't think he can keep up in a shootout with Drew Brees. I hate everything.
Adam: Saints. Green Bay giving 5.5 at home is not much faith in the backup QB nor the defense. Brees to tear it up.
Jacksonville Jaguars @ Indianapolis Colts (+2.5)
Lucas: Jaguars. I keep telling you, people: there's a pattern! And since Andrew Luck remains in limbo, this seems like an easy pick.
Adam: Jaguars. Pretty crazy last week. The Jags game started with a kickoff return touchdown and then a 75 yard run by Fournette. Well, it's the Jags' "up" week as they have bounced back and forth all season.
Lucas note: He figured out the pattern!
Arizona Cardinals vs Los Angeles Rams (-2.5)
Lucas: Cardinals. Okay, who gave Adrian Peterson the key that turns on the Rejuvenation Machine? And is there one in London? By the way, I hate that the NFL scheduled this game for noon Central time. The whole morning football thing is awesome! Unless there's some sort of logistical conflict, WHY DIDN'T THEY SCHEDULE IT FOR 8:30 CENTRAL TIME LIKE THEY'VE BEEN DOING?!
Adam: Cardinals. AP. That is all.
New York Jets @ Miami Dolphins (-2.5)
Lucas: Jets. Miami's not playing the Falcons anymore, and the Jets are probably playing pissed off after getting a touchdown stolen away from them. Al, I like you, but I really want to know what the hell you saw on Sunday.
Adam: Jets. 'Cus who doesn't like a little roasted dolphin for lunch?Sr VP of Officiating Al Riveron reviewed the #Jets non-TD play. He made the call Sunday & is comfortable with it today. Tony Corrente agreed— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) October 16, 2017
Lucas note: Depends. Did he blow all his money on instant lottery tickets?
Baltimore Ravens @ Minnesota Vikings (-5.5)
Lucas: Vikings. I know he may not play quite yet, but BAH GAWD, THAT'S TEDDY BRIDGEWATER'S MUSIC!
Adam: Ravens. Minnesota to win but Baltimore will cover..@teddyb_h2o cleared to return to @Vikings practice: https://t.co/FHf9O4TssU pic.twitter.com/2C3Ud0meKj— NFL (@NFL) October 16, 2017
Sunday, Late Afternoon
Dallas Cowboys @ San Francisco 49ers (+6.5)
Lucas: 49ers. This is a pure taking the points pick. San Francisco is 0-6 straight up, but 4-2 against the spread. Even with Zeke still in for now, I want to take advantage of the fairly generous line.
Adam: 49ers. Dallas is getting all their wins in court, not on the field.
Cincinnati Bengals @ Pittsburgh Steelers (-5.5)
Lucas: Bengals. Roethlisberger might actually be on the downswing of his career at this point, so I'm taking the points and looking forward to Ben going bonkers to prove me wrong.
Adam: Bengals. Cincinnati has been a pretty huge disappointment so far this year. I see a bounce back this week against an improving Pitt offense.
Denver Broncos @ Los Angeles Chargers (-1.5)
Lucas: Broncos. I know Denver hasn't really impressed since bringing the Cowboys to a screeching halt several weeks ago and they just lost to the freaking Giants, but the Chargers have no business being favored. I don't care if it's in their playhouse of a stadium. It's going to be packed with Broncos fans. We all know this.
Adam: Broncos. LA a favorite? I must have missed something. I know Siemian got hurt, but should be back this week. And if not the $72 Million Man is ready.
Seattle Seahawks @ New York Giants (+5.5)
Lucas: Seahawks. Go figure: the week after Odell gets hurt, the Giants show up in force. This week we regress to the mean from the first five weeks.
Adam: Seahawks. -5.5 against a severely depleted Giants team. Even with the low scoring Seattle team on the road, I will give the points.
Sunday Night
Atlanta Falcons @ New England Patriots (-3.5)
Lucas: Patriots. Never forget.
Adam: Patriots. Atlanta blew a 17 pt lead last week. And against Smoking Jay!
Monday Night
Washington Redskins @ Philadelphia Eagles (-4.5)
Lucas: Eagles. Hey, Philly people: at least Pete Morelli isn't officiating this game. Instead you get Ed Hochuli and his magnificent biceps.
Adam: Eagles. Philly looks like the team to beat in the NFC East. I don't see them slowing down this week.
Records So Far
Lucas: 44-47 (7-7 last week)
Adam: 46-45 (4-10 last week)
Scott: 34-57 (6-8 last week)
Geoffrey: 47-44 (4-10 last week)
