2017 NCAA Playoff Points: Week 7

I was waiting for the chaotic week. And go figure: the first week after I start doing mock brackets, all hell breaks loose.

I'll delve into how this affects the Death to the BCS Playoffs later today; I need time to look over the numbers. But we have to get the numbers first, and that's where this comes in.

Due to Western Michigan-Akron getting delayed by weather until yesterday, I'm running behind on posting this a little bit. Their game primarily only impacted the MAC, but thanks to non-conference play I have to wait to see what the impact is everywhere else; this late in the season, every game impacts so many others.

What I know has changed is the top of the food chain in terms of Playoff Points. The Pac 12 took over the top spot in PP1 and PP2 while the Big Ten dropped a little bit while still maintaining its lead in aPP. The Sun Belt continues to be a fascinating study as their tied for fifth in win average, but dead last in every Playoff Point category. A fair number of FCS games play a role, but they haven't beaten anyone tough, except for Troy knocking off LSU.

Looking at top fives in every category, Alabama leads in PP1 with 24 points, Clemson is right behind them with 23, USC is in third with 21, Georgia is right behind them with 20, and Penn State rounds out the top five with 19 points. Arizona State leads in PP2 with 9.67 points, followed by Michigan State at 8.60, Iowa at 8.50, Stanford at 8.40, and Washington State at 8.17 points. Alabama is also at the top of the aPP list with 24 points, followed by a three way tie at 20 between Clemson, Georgia, and USC, with Penn State rounding out the top five at 19 points.

The finishes out our look at Playoff Points for the week. I'm going to go to the lab and return later today with a new mock bracket for the Death to the BCS Playoffs.
