2016 NCAA Playoff Points: Week 7

The really important trophy, for me, is back where it belongs. So while I celebrate the forces of good triumphing over the dark forces from northern DuPage County, I'm looking up at the D-I level as well to see how things have changed after Week 7.

We're down to just one winless team in Rice, while a number of undefeated teams still stand. That will make my second mock bracket a bit of a challenge, but that comes later.

You can come back and view last week's rankings here. You can also flash back to August for a primer on how these metrics work. Let's crunch the numbers.

Again, many of the rankings remain the same, though the ACC and SEC are 1-2 in every category this week, with each conference leading two of them. The Pac 12 has an edge over the Big Ten, and then there's a drop off. Conference USA does, however, remain the worst conference top to bottom in the FBS. These rankings may help play a bit of a factor when it comes to seeding, but more on that later.

Looking at the individual numbers, Alabama has taken over the top spot in First Degree Playoff Points with 26, Clemson is right behind them with 25, Michigan falls to third with 21 and is tied with Tennessee, Texas A&M has 19, and Ohio State and Western Michigan are tied for sixth with 18 points apiece. The Crimson Tide also lead in Second Degree Playoff Points with 10.14,  Texas A&M is in second with 9.67, and Virginia and Tennessee are sitting at 9 points apiece. The aforementioned First Degree Playoff Points leaders have those totals in Adjusted Playoff Points as well (Tennessee hasn't lost points because their losses are to undefeated Alabama and Texas A&M), while Florida Atlantic now has the lowest score in that category at a whopping -21 points.

I will take these numbers, as well as a few computer rankings, into account today. Later this afternoon after some tinkering, I will return with another mock bracket for the Death to the BCS Playoffs!
