2016 NCAA Playoff Points: Week 9

I'm running behind this week, but it was to be expected with North Central College's Homecoming this weekend and my five year college reunion where I saw all of three people I graduated with, one of whom was my wife and the other of whom is a good friend of ours that we see fairly regularly. Though we did get to see the first half of North Central's trouncing of Carroll in my first game back at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium since the 2010 Quarterfinals against Whitewater.

But while all that was going on, sheer, unadulterated chaos unfolded across the nation at the FBS level, and I need to sort through the madness in order to try and build a playoff bracket again.

You can view last week's rankings here, and can check out my season introductory post for a brief primer on how all of this works.

There were a number of byes this week and some flip flopping of placings here, but for the most part things stayed the same. If you look at the spreadsheet you may notice one or two new sheets that feature sortable team and conference stats, though whether you as a guest can actually sort them, I'm not sure (my trial and error in incognito mode didn't work), but feel free to browse those at your leisure. At least for me, they make sorting things out so much easier.

As we look at the league leaders in the various categories, Alabama remains in first place in First Degree Playoff Points with 39, Clemson is second with 37, Michigan is up to 32, Penn State has risen all the way to fourth with 30 points, and Ohio State rounds out the top five with 29. Second Degree Playoff Points is a fun one to sort, as Tennessee leads the nation with 18.40 points, then Alabama at 17.13, Clemson and Penn State are tied for third with 15 points, and Ohio State and Texas A&M are tied for fifth with 13.57 points. Adjusted Playoff Points, meanwhile, are the same in the top three as First Degree Playoff Points, but we have a three-way tie for fourth place between Penn State, Ohio State, and Western Michigan, who all have 27 points.

All of this is a long way to say that this week's mock Death to the BCS Playoff Bracket should be... interesting to create. I'll be back later this afternoon with Frankenstein's monster.
