2016 NCAA NCSS Rankings: Week 6

We're well into the month of October now, and conference play is in full swing.

Last week's rankings saw a little bit of movement as a few conferences were still wrapping up their out of league slates, but I expect that most of the rest of the way will be pretty straightforward. With the handful of independent teams though, there will still be a few non-conference games on the docket, and we haven't gotten to Nick Saban Is a Coward Week yet. Stay tuned for that.

In the meantime, here's a look at this week's non-conference games. If you want a primer on how these rankings work, you can view that at my season introductory post.

  1. MAC (0.00, 5.08; LW: 1). No change.
  2. Mountain West (0.00, 4.92; LW: 2). No change.
  3. Sun Belt (0.00, 4.73; LW: 3). No change.
  4. Conference USA (0.08, 4.69; LW: 4). Old Dominion hosts Massachusetts.
  5. American Athletic (0.00, 4.42; LW: 5). No change.
  6. ACC (0.14, 3.21; LW: 7). NC State hosts Notre Dame and Duke hosts Army.
  7. Big Ten (0.07, 3.14; LW: 6). Michigan State hosts BYU.
  8. Pac 12 (0.00, 3.00; LW: 8). No change.
  9. Big 12 (0.00, 2.90; LW: 9). No change.
  10. SEC (0.00, 2.71; LW: 10). No change.

With the only non-conference games coming from the independents' games, there's not much to report this week. The independents, were they their own conference, would have an average score of 12.00, easily the best in the country.

With luck, maybe enough undefeated teams will fall this week despite all the byes abundant in Week 6. If so, following the Week 6 Playoff Points update, I will be able to include my first Death to the BCS Playoffs mock bracket. If not, we'll have to hold out until I don't exclude any undefeated teams.

I'm taking a couple days off this weekend, so posts regarding college football from the weekend will likely see a delay in posting, but I will return next week with a look at Playoff Points from the weekend and the Week 7 schedule.
