2016 NCAA Playoff Points: Week 6

I took this weekend off to get some stuff done at home, hence the delay on this post until Tuesday afternoon. Of course, with another week of college football in the books, I need to get to work on updating things.

Looking at the standings, we're down to 11 undefeated teams. After looking close at how they're distributed, I have found that they're spread out enough for me to build my first mock bracket. That will come a little later this afternoon when I can look at everything and make a good call on how to build the bracket.

In the meantime, for reference you can check last week's rankings here. If you need a refresher on how most of this works, you can check that out at my season introduction post. For now, let's look at the points.

We've flipped a few places, as is common around now, but the SEC remains at the top in every category except for wins, which the ACC just took the lead in. The ACC is at least in the top three in every category, the Big Ten and Pac-12 both rank between second and fourth. What interests me is that the Sun Belt is one of the worse conferences in terms of wins, but their Playoff Point numbers are up several places from their win total. Conference USA also got out of the basement of wins thanks to both the Sun Belt and the four independent teams being awful, but their Playoff Point numbers are last by a solid margin.

Individually, Michigan has taken the lead in First Degree Playoff Points with 20, Tennessee is in second with 19 despite their loss, and Clemson, Alabama, and Texas A&M are tied for third with 18 points. A&M leads in Second Degree Playoff Points with 7.67 points, Tennessee is up there with 7.4 points, Stanford is third with 7.33 points, and Virginia is in fourth with 7 points. The Adjusted Playoff Points has the same top five as the First Degree Playoff Points, but we again have a ton of teams in the red, paced by 0-6 Miami (Ohio) at -16 points.

I'm going to go to the lab now, and later today, I will return with a look at the Death to the BCS Playoff picture with a month and a half of season left to play.
