2017 NCAA NCSS Rankings: Week 13

With Nick Saban Is A Coward Week behind us, we can get to the week everybody loves in the regular season: Rivalry Week!

For the most part, these rivalry games are played in conference, but there are a number of games that are played between interconference rivals, and these games need to be accounted for. That, combined with the four independent schools, and the need for this post for one final week this season becomes clear.

You can find a primer on how the NCSS metric works in my season introductory post. Here's the final set of rankings by conference for the 2017 season.

  1. Sun Belt (0.00, 6.17; LW: 1). No change.
  2. MAC (0.00, 6.17; LW: 2). No change.
  3. Mountain West (0.08, 5.83; LW: 3). Hawaii hosts BYU.
  4. Conference USA (0.00, 5.86; LW: 4). No change.
  5. American Athletic (0.00, 4.58; LW: 5). No change.
  6. ACC (0.79, 4.07; LW: 8). Georgia Tech hosts Georgia, Florida State visits Florida, Louisville visits Kentucky, Clemson visits South Carolina.
  7. Big Ten (0.00, 4.07; LW: 6). No change.
  8. SEC (0.64, 3.79; LW: 9). Georgia visits Georgia Tech, Florida hosts Florida State, Kentucky hosts Louisville, South Carolina hosts Clemson.

Things went about as expected. This is always the week where, after being at or near the bottom, the SEC and ACC get a jump in their NCSS scores. For reference, the four independent schools have jumped to an average NCSS of 19.75, and that's with both Army and Massachusetts having their byes this week.

This is my final NCSS post for the year. I'll be back on Monday with a look at the results from the weekend, then my final mock bracket. A week from today I'll post a look at all the automatic bid games on the docket for Week 14. For the most part it'll be conference title games, though the Sun Belt now has the only true regular season that ultimately matters the most.
