2015 NCAA Playoff Points: Week 12

I'm running a little behind this week thanks to my seven-games-in-three-days basketball binge. Somehow I still have a voice, and I have some football catching up to do.

We're down to just two undefeated teams left in the realm of college football, which is a little crazy considering where we are, though with just two weeks left, it's not super surprising. It is a much bigger dropoff than last week, however.

So with that in mind, let's take a look at the results from the weekend. If you need a refresher on how Playoff Points work, you can refer back to my Week 1 post.

If you want to see exact numbers for each team and conference, you can view my spreadsheet here. Despite a pair of FCS teams on their schedule this week, the SEC retains hold of first place in all three categories, with the three independent schools, the Pac-12 and the Big Ten all ranking second, third, or fourth in all three categories. The Big 12 then moved into fifth in every category while the ACC ranks sixth in all three. We talk about the "Power Five" conference in the Football Bowl Subdivision, and based on these rankings, this is why they are the "Power Five."

Looking at the individual schools, Michigan State has taken over the lead in First Degree Playoff Points as the first team to 60, while Clemson and Alabama are right behind them with 59 points apiece. Oklahoma is fourth with 55 points, Notre Dame has 52, and Florida rounds out all of the country with at least 50 points, just meeting the threshold. In terms of Second Degree Playoff Points, Nebraska is your national leader with 26 points, LSU is next with 25.71, Alabama is in third with 25.50, and you have Utah and Arkansas sitting at 24.50 points apiece.

This is going to mean some major changes when I go back into the Playoff Laboratory. I'm going to check over my numbers as well as some computer rankings, and later this afternoon, I will unveil my fourth mock bracket for the Death to the BCS Playoffs. There will be this mock and just one more... possibly two, depending on if Navy wins the American Athletic Conference, which is suddenly not out of the question.
