2015 NCAA NCSS Rankings: Week 7

We're onto another week of college football, and I pushed this post back a day in observance of my wife's birthday yesterday. Today, we're back to football.

We've actually had a somewhat volatile system with this this year, as I think I've seen three separate weeks where one conference finished with a negative score for the week, and this is all before the SEC shows how spineless it is. It's coming in a month, trust me. Last week was one of the negative score weeks, but it came as a result of that one FCS game being the only out of conference game for the league. I think, for the most part, we're past this nonsense (again, at least until the SEC plays Coward Week).

Below, I will reveal the weekly scores for each conference, and sort every conference by their cumulative average for the season to date.

  1. MAC: 0.08; 6.15 (LW: 1). Ball State hosts Georgia State.
  2. Conference USA: 0.25; 5.92 (LW: 2). Louisiana Tech visits Mississippi State.
  3. Sun Belt: 0.18; 5.64 (LW: 3). Georgia State visits Ball State.
  4. Mountain West: 0.00; 5.25 (LW: 4). No change.
  5. Big Ten: 0.00; 4.93 (LW: 5). No change.
  6. American Athletic: 0.33; 5.17 (LW: 6). Cincinnati visits BYU and Memphis hosts Ole Miss.
  7. Pac-12: 0.17; 3.33 (LW: 7). USC visits Notre Dame.
  8. ACC: 0.00; 3.07 (LW: 8). No change.
  9. Big XII: 0.00; 3.00 (LW: 9). No change.
  10. SEC: 0.21; 2.50 (LW: 10). Ole Miss visits Memphis and Mississippi State hosts Louisiana Tech.

If you want to see the updated rankings, you can view them here. I've also been keeping track of the independent schools' average NCSS, which is up to 12.00. However, Army hosts FCS school Bucknell, which is their second game playing down a level this season. As such, Army is now disqualified from the Death to the BCS Playoffs, though with just one win to date, they probably weren't making it anyway. Regardless, I'm sticking to my guns here.

This makes four disqualified schools, with the Black Knights joining North Carolina and Boston College as NCSS-disqualified teams, while Penn State is still under eternal banishment from playoff contention for being a cult that defends a coach who refused to push the administration to do more about a child predator on their campus (a stance I'm doubling down on after watching Happy Valley this last Friday and being disgusted with many Penn State fans depicted there. It's a great watch though, something I encourage you to see if you haven't already).

Games for the week kick off tomorrow, and I will be back on Monday with a look at the results from the weekend!
