2015 NCAA NCSS Rankings: Week 6

We're onto yet another week of college football, and conference play is now in full swing.

The Week 5 rankings saw most of the placings settled in at this point, since this metric focuses on play outside of conference boundaries. There will still be scattered games played out of conference over the next few weeks due to the independents, and a few teams still have non conference foes on their schedule, including the annual The SEC Are Cowards Week coming up in a little over a month.

So below, I will include for each conference the non-conference score for the week, the cumulative score for the season (both values averaged), and their ranking from last week. Let's take a look.

  1. MAC: 0.00; 6.08 (LW: 1). No change; everyone is playing in-conference this week, with Buffalo on a bye.
  2. Conference USA: -0.08; 5.67 (LW: 2). North Texas hosts FCS Portland State.
  3. Sun Belt: 0.73; 5.45 (LW: 5). New Mexico State visits Ole Miss, Troy visits Mississippi State, and Louisiana Monroe visits Tulsa.
  4. Mountain West: 0.00; 5.25 (LW: 3). No change; everyone is playing in-conference this week.
  5. Big Ten: 0.00; 4.93 (LW: 4). No change; everyone is playing in-conference this week.
  6. American Athletic: 0.58; 4.83 (LW: 6). South Florida hosts Syracuse, Navy visits Notre Dame, Tulsa hosts Louisiana Monroe, and East Carolina visits BYU.
  7. Pac-12: 0.00; 3.17 (LW: 7). No change; everyone is playing in-conference this week, with Stanford and UCLA on byes.
  8. ACC: 0.29; 3.07 (LW: 9). Duke visits Army and Syracuse visits South Florida.
  9. Big XII: 0.00; 3.00 (LW: 8). No change; everyone is playing in-conference this week.

If you want to see the updated rankings, you can view them here. The independent schools are up to an average NCSS of 11.33 now, with a couple of them hosting American Athletic schools and Duke visiting Army. Again, their score gets skewed, so I don't refer to them in these rankings other than as a passing note for full disclosure.

There are a lot of big games this weekend, both in and out of conference, and these will likely have a pretty big impact on the Death to the BCS Playoffs picture. I'll have a look at Playoff Points for you again on Monday.
