2015 NCAA Playoff Points Rankings: Week 7

Two more undefeated teams got knocked off on Saturday, leaving us with 14 still unblemished. However, because they are centralized in a few conferences, we still can't start setting up mock brackets. Even so, we can still update the Playoff Points rankings.

Things have probably changed a little bit from Week 6 with some crazy finishes and chaos near the top, though most of the establishment remains in clear control roughly halfway through the college football season. Of course, even though win total rankings are probably going to remain fairly constant, playoff points have been fluctuating depending on the winners each week.

If you need a refresher on how Playoff Points work, you can refer back to my Week 1 post. Now, through seven weeks of football, here is where each conference stands.

If you want to see exact numbers for each team and conference, you can view my spreadsheet here. We have a couple of ties this week, as well as some minor changes near the top of the standings, but overall everything is staying pretty close to the same.

On an individual basis, we're up to at least 40 teams in double figures in terms of First Degree Playoff Points, which makes sense at this stage of the season. Your national leader is Utah with 24 points, Ohio State is right behind them with 23, Michigan State and LSU each have 22, and Alabama and Iowa each have 21. The Utes also lead the nation in Second Degree Playoff Points with 10, LSU has 9.33 points, Michigan has 8.6, and several other teams are in the seven to eight range.

Soon we will be able to start putting together mock brackets for the 2015 Death to the BCS Playoffs, but there are still too many undefeated teams remaining to build one. Perhaps by next week we can start, but we'll see. For now though, we'll stick to playoff points. Tomorrow, I will have a look at the non-conference schedule for Week 8.
