I'm back in the basement after a subpar Week 13. Fortunately for me, Adam and I ended up splitting our disputed games evenly for the second straight week, but I've fallen back down into a tie for last place. Logan remains in first place in our group, holding a four game lead over Adam. Much of this is thanks to his dominance in minority games (games where he and one other person picked a team). You can view a full breakdown of those picks here.
Now that we're back to a full 16 game slate, I have to really break out if I want to avoid last place. This week, Adam and I disagree on eight games. Let's get to it!
Thursday Night
Oakland Raiders @ Kansas City Chiefs (-3.5)
Lucas: Raiders. I know this means Vegas thinks these teams are relatively even, but 3.5 points is a lot to lay with the Chiefs. I'm not only taking the points, I'm taking the upset. Also, Marquette King is the best.
Adam: Raiders. This could have been a good game, but with how Oakland is gelling together and KC only really has a run game, I'll take the points.Oooooo so that's how I got caught... 😏 pic.twitter.com/VPuvLWcvFK— Marquette King (@MarquetteKing) December 5, 2016
Sunday, Early Afternoon
Pittsburgh Steelers @ Buffalo Bills (+1.5)
Lucas: Steelers. I'm just not crazy about Buffalo still. They had that nice run earlier in the season, but they're a .500 team.
Adam: Steelers. The Bills are a little one sided with McCoy. Now, he should do just fine for the 1st round of the fantasy playoffs, but Bell, Brown and crew will roll.
Chicago Bears @ Detroit Lions (-8.5)
Lucas: Lions. This is a huge line, given that the Bears did beat the Lions in Chicago, but Detroit seems to actually be legit, as much as I don't want to admit it. Also, beating a terrible Niners team doesn't make you suddenly mediocre even, Bears.
Adam: Bears. Following my rules...
Cincinnati Bengals @ Cleveland Browns (+6.5)
Lucas: Bengals. I thought about taking the points here, but come on; it's the Browns.
Adam: Browns. Come on RG3...
Lucas note: Possibly...
Denver Broncos @ Tennessee Titans (+0.5)
Lucas: Broncos. I'm surprised this is a pick 'em. I would have probably had the Titans as a point or two underdog. That's okay, I'll take the couple extra points.
Adam: Broncos. Pretty interesting that this game is a toss up. Denver's D should have no problem holding back this rising, but average, Tennessee offense.
Houston Texans @ Indianapolis Colts (-6.5)
Lucas: Texans. No, Brock, I don't think your offense is about to explode. But I do think you'll pull off at least a back door cover in this one.
Adam: Colts. Indy looked the part against the Jets this past Monday night. For my own pocket book, I wish Hilton had a TD catch as that would have cashed me most points in one league...
Arizona Cardinals @ Miami Dolphins (-1.5)
Lucas: Dolphins. I'm still not sold on the Cardinals, and Miami might be better than we all thought.
Adam: Cardinals. DJ will run wild once again...
Minnesota Vikings @ Jacksonville Jaguars (+3.5)
Lucas: Vikings. Gotta keep the NFC North race interesting...
Adam: Vikings. This just in... AP may return this year. (Dear god I hope that it is not against me in the fantasy playoffs.)
Washington Redskins @ Philadelphia Eagles (+0.5)
Lucas: Redskins. Sign that I don't pay as much attention to the NFL as I should for these things: Carson Wentz (Go Bison) has been in a bit of slump as the season has gone along. League adjusting to him? Maybe. But there's no reason this should be a pick 'em. Washington should be getting a point or two at least.
Adam: Redskins. The Skins are playing well this year, and Philly has been up and down.
San Diego Chargers @ Carolina Panthers (-1.5)
Lucas: Panthers. This is a bit of a gutsy call, but I'm riding the "West Coast team playing on the road at noon" theory with this one.
Adam: Panthers. Tough call... going with the home team.
Sunday, Late Afternoon
New York Jets @ San Francisco 49ers (-2.5)
Lucas: Jets. Schadenfreude is the best.
Adam: 49ers. Let the Kapernick jokes flow: 5 sacks... 4 yds passing.... 4... 4!!!!! This is too easy...Have a day, Colin Kaepernick! pic.twitter.com/pmb598Qovm— The Fake ESPN (@TheFakeESPN) December 4, 2016
Lucas note: Here's more.
Atlanta Falcons @ Los Angeles Rams (+6.5)Taking into account sacks, at Chicago, Colin Kaepernick threw for minus-26 yards— Gregg Easterbrook (@EasterbrookG) December 5, 2016
Lucas: Falcons. Ladies and gentlemen, your Los Angeles Rams!
Adam: Falcons. On what planet it is appropriate to re-hire Jeff Fisher? Shame...Hahahahaha... oh wait, they're serious. Let me laugh harder.— Lucas Mitzel (@northsider89) December 4, 2016
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!! https://t.co/S2TAsybuuq
Seattle Seahawks @ Green Bay Packers (+2.5)
Lucas: Packers. At the beginning of the season, I did not think I'd be getting points for this game. Since I am, and Aaron Rodgers is back, you bet I'm taking them!
Adam: Seahawks. I like Seattle's D over Green Bay's resurging offense. That simple.
New Orleans Saints @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-2.5)
Lucas: Buccaneers. I miss the days where all of my picks regarding Bucs games involved making jokes about the cannons on the pirate ship. But after the beatdown the Saints just got, and the way Tampa has played for much of the season, I'm riding them today.
Adam: Saints. Brees had better bounce back. I know it is on the road, but after last week...
Sunday Night
Dallas Cowboys @ New York Giants (+2.5)
Lucas: Cowboys. I'm just waiting for the inevitable shoe to drop in January and everyone can go back to making Cowboys jokes again.
Adam: Cowboys. 2.5... hahahahahahahaha! How...how..how. Usually when I say that too I end up on the wrong side of the line but wow 2.5 to NY... no, this game will be a blowout.
Monday Night
Baltimore Ravens @ New England Patriots (-8.5)
Lucas: Ravens. There are so many things wrong with this pick; I'm counting out Touchdown Tom, at home, in December. At least when it comes to the line. New England's going to win, especially if they play "Don't Want to Lose Your Love" again.
Records So Far
Lucas: 93-99 (7-8 last week)
Adam: 97-95 (7-8 last week)
Scott: 93-99 (9-6 last week)
Grant: 96-96 (9-6 last week)
Logan: 101-91 (8-7 last week)
