2016 NCAA Playoff Points: Week 11

All right. Who broke college football?

I thought it was crazy enough that Mount Union, one of the purple-clad titans of Division III who we can all but pencil in for the Stagg Bowl on a yearly basis, lost a regular season game for the first time in 113 tries. But then all of the nonsense happened at the FBS level as well, and suddenly I have a lot to sort out.

Fortunately, this is the easy part. This morning, I am running through all of the results from the past week and updating our Playoff Points numbers, which might see some stark differences from last week. If you're unfamiliar with how this metric works, you can view that in my season introduction post.

I've got all of these categories sorted out by conference on one sheet in the above link, and you can also look at the specific data sets by week as well as a sorted list by team. All in all there wasn't as much upheaval here as I figured there would be. A few conferences swapped places, but most stuff is where it was last week. The SEC now has at least a tie for first in every category, the ACC slipped a little bit while the Big Ten caught up some, the Pac-12 is now fourth in every category, and Conference USA is starting to resurge a little bit.

As for individual teams in every category, Alabama is now far and away in first place in First Degree Playoff Points with 58 points, Clemson and Ohio State are now in a tie for second with 50 points, Michigan is in fourth with 47 points, and Penn State round out the top five with 45 points. The Crimson Tide also lead in Second Degree Playoff Points with 24.80, followed by Pittsburgh, who took advantage of their win over Clemson with 23.67 points, then Clemson in third with 23.11, Tennessee with 22.14 points, and Penn State again rounds out the top five with 21.63. Alabama also leads in the Adjusted Playoff Points category with 58, Ohio State is second with 48, Clemson has 46, Michigan is in fourth with 43, and Penn State comes in fifth again with 40 points.

What none of this really covers is how many top teams suffered losses this week. This means I'm going to need to take some time to pore over the results, and when I return later this afternoon, I will have an updated look at the Death to the BCS Playoff field.
