2016 NCAA NCSS Rankings: Week 10

Double digits! We've made it!

It's hard to believe we're this far into the season already, but time marches on and we're getting into the more crucial parts of the season. Playoff teams are looking to solidify their resumes, bubble teams are looking for that one break to sneak in, and conference contenders are trying to fight for a spot in their conference title game to steal an automatic bid.

Today though, the focus is on our non-conference games. I think last week might have been the first time all season that there were no changes to the standings. Whether that will remain the case this week, we're about to find out.

If you need a refresher on how this metric works, check out my season introduction post. Let's look at the non-conference games for the week.

  1. Sun Belt (0.36, 5.73; LW: 2). Georgia Southern visits Ole Miss and Troy hosts Massachusetts.
  2. Conference USA (-0.08, 5.31; LW: 1). UTEP hosts FCS Houston Baptist.
  3. Mountain West (0.17, 5.25; LW: 3). Air Force visits Army.
  4. MAC (0.00, 5.08; LW: 4). No change.
  5. American Athletic (0.17, 4.18; LW: 5). Navy plays Notre Dame at a neutral site and Cincinnati hosts BYU.
  6. ACC (0.00, 3.50; LW: 6). No change.
  7. Pac 12 (0.00, 3.17; LW: 7). No change.
  8. Big Ten (0.00, 3.14; LW: 8). No change.
  9. SEC (0.00, 3.00; LW: 9). Ole Miss hosts Georgia Southern and Tennessee hosts FCS Tennessee Tech, resulting in no change.
  10. Big 12 (0.00, 2.90; LW: 10). No change.

For the second straight week the SEC gets no change thanks to one non conference game against a Group of Five opponent cancelled out by an FCS game, but we're still a couple weeks away from Nick Saban Is A Coward Week. We also saw the rare negative week for a conference with UTEP getting its FCS game on and the rest of Conference USA playing each other. All in all though, the only swap was at the very top with the Sun Belt moving into first thanks to the SEC's insistence on playing teams from the Sun Belt late in the year.

We finally get MACtion on this evening, with a pair of games on the slate, but most of the consequential action for the purposes of the Death to the BCS Playoffs goes on this weekend. I'll be back on Monday with a look at the updated playoff picture!
