2016 NCAA NCSS Rankings: Week 11

We interrupt any and all political bullcrap you may be reading today to bring you a little something football related, in hopes that maybe it will distract you from our impending doom.

Whatever side of the aisle you may fall on, we can pretty much all agree that football is awesome, and as we start to see the regular season wind down the games become more and more critical.

For the last several weeks, we've seen very little change in our NCSS rankings. Last week saw just a swap at the top, but other than that teams appear to have settled into their final spots... at least until the final two weeks when we get a bevy of non-conference games, including the annual Nick Saban Is A Coward Week.

If you want a refresher on how this metric works, you can check that out in my season introductory post. Let's look at this week's rankings.

  1. Sun Belt (0.00, 5.73; LW: 1). No change.
  2. Conference USA (0.00, 5.31; LW: 2). No change.
  3. Mountain West (0.00, 5.25; LW: 3). No change.
  4. MAC (0.00, 5.08; LW: 4). No change.
  5. American Athletic (0.00, 4.18; LW: 5). No change.
  6. ACC (0.00, 3.50; LW: 6). No change.
  7. Pac 12 (0.00, 3.17; LW: 7). No change.
  8. Big Ten (0.00, 3.14; LW: 8). No change.
  9. SEC (0.00, 3.00; LW: 9). No change.
  10. Big 12 (0.00, 2.90; LW: 10). No change.

I forgot to include the independents last week, and it's critical that I mention them this week because they stay out of the FBS conferences. Army and Notre Dame are playing in San Antonio, and BYU hosts FCS Southern Utah for their dessert, which is awfully late in the season for this nonsense. This drops the four independent schools' collective NCSS average to 17.25, which would be first place far and away were they their own conference, though the number would be down to 16.75 were they a conference because of the Notre Dame-Army game.

We do have a fascinating occurrence here this week that I don't think I've ever seen before. None of the conferences saw a change in their average NCSS scores because everyone is either playing a conference game or off this week, other than the aforementioned independent teams. It made for a nice, easy post this week.

Enjoy your MACtion tonight as a distraction from our impending doom from the rise of a despot, and unless tonight's events off the football field result in our destruction, I will be back on Monday with a look at the weekend's results and a new mock bracket for the Death to the BCS Playoffs.
