2014 NFL Tournament of Champions Third Round: Terry Bradshaw Bracket

Last one for the weekend. We only have two games left before we get to the Elite Eight.

A lot of the classic teams still remain in this bracket, though its namesake only has one representative left. The original Super Bowl champion is still alive, as is the Greatest Show on Turf. A lot of fantastic teams still standing. But only two can advance.

So to see who will, we're sticking to tradition. These games will be simulated best-of-three, with the "clinching" game being the official result. I'll try to take weather forecasts into account. All simulations are provided by WhatIfSports.com. Let's go.

(XX) '92 Dallas Cowboys @ (IV) '75 Pittsburgh Steelers
Game 1: '92 DAL 49, '75 PIT 3
Game 2: '75 PIT 27, '92 DAL 17
Game 3: '75 PIT 7, '92 DAL 3
I don't get football, given the difference between the first simulation and the last two. Terry Bradshaw hit Frank Lewis from five yards out early in the second quarter for the lone touchdown of the game and all the points the Steelers would need. Bradshaw finished with 12 completions on 22 attempts for 140 yards. Franco Harris ran 22 times for 91 yards while Rocky Bleier added 69 yards on 12 carries. Troy Aikman was limited to 122 yards on 12 of 23 passing with a pick.

(XII) '99 St. Louis Rams @ (V) '66 Green Bay Packers
Game 1: '99 STL 30, '66 GB 0
Game 2: '99 STL 38, '66 GB 7
A little cold weather couldn't stymie the Greatest Show on Turf. Marshall Faulk had 109 yards on 22 carries and caught 3 passes for 20 yards and a score. Kurt Warner had a monster day, going 18 of 30 for 245 yards and four touchdowns. Az-Zahir Hakim had three catches for 84 yards and three scores to aid Warner in his romp. Bart Starr had an awful day, only completing seven passes for 137 yards on 25 attempts, though he did get a garbage time touchdown.

The '99 Rams were the only road team in the third round to advance, and I was thinking for sure that the '92 Cowboys would do it too, but they couldn't win a second simulation. Instead, the namesake advances to the quarterfinals.

Three of the top four seeds still remain with only eight squads left, so the seeding system seems to have worked pretty well. Can those top seeds hold down the fort again as we approach the Super Bowl of Super Bowls? You'll have to wait a bit again to find out.

Next weekend I'll have a single post for the quarterfinals since we've made it this far. Forty teams down, and seven more will fall before we're through in a couple weeks.
