2013 Death to the BCS Playoffs: Week 11 Seedings

Eleven weeks are in the books, and another unbeaten has fallen.

Granted, that unbeaten falling is somewhat old news, as Oregon lost to Stanford Thursday night, but it's still kind of a big deal. At this point, we are down to only six undefeated schools at the highest level. Glancing at standings before I even start to crunch playoff point numbers, there will definitely be a shakeup again this week. And to think, some idiots believe a playoff would damage the regular season.

As a reminder, this playoff is set up based on the playoff outlined in Death to the BCS by Dan Wetzel, Josh Peter and Jeff Passan. 16 teams get in: the ten conference champions and six at-large bids are awarded to the remaining pool. Criteria aren't set in stone, but I use a combination of metrics outlined in last week's post about seedings. In the meantime, if you want to see how I've ranked conferences based on their overall scheduling to date, you can view the most recent rankings here. Below are the new Death to the BCS Playoff seedings with all games through November 9th taken into account.

Out of the playoffs: Oklahoma (9), Houston (14)

As I was building the seeds this week, I feel like there was less upheaval than last week, probably because only two teams dropped out instead of four. Instead this time, I did a lot of shuffling around of teams. Oregon's loss caused a shakeup of the top 5, NIU being off while Ball State picked up another win to make them my MAC "champion" again and drop NIU to an at large spot, though that will get resolved on Wednesday one way or another. Even without that, I think Oklahoma would have dropped out based on their loss to Baylor anyway, with the one-loss teams still out there.

Look at these records though. There are still anywhere from 2-4 games left in the regular season, plus some conference title games left to be played. A lot can still happen. Tomorrow I'll update the NCSS rankings by conference on here. Meanwhile I'm looking forward to one final D-III weekend in the regular season, where North Central is already in the playoffs, and the Little Brass Bell is back where it belongs. All is right with the football world, in my eyes.
