NCAA FBS Rankings: Week 13

It's been a busy past few days, with North Central basketball underway, and a lot of football this past weekend. I'm looking ahead now to the upcoming week of games, seeing as the action starts tonight with a couple MAC games. These are all factors that are important going forward to the last few weeks of the season for playoff purposes.

This week's rankings will have some big movement, if my spoiler from yesterday's playoff seedings post are any indication. If you want to see where we're at through the first 12 weeks of the season, you can view last week's schedule rankings here.

1. Conference USA (0.29, 7.50; LW: 2). East Carolina visits North Carolina State and Florida Atlantic hosts New Mexico State.
2. Sun Belt (0.00, 7.25; LW: 1). No change.
3. MAC (0.00, 6.46; LW: 3). No change.
4. Mountain West (0.08, 5.67; LW: 4). San Jose State hosts Navy.
5. American Athletic (0.00, 5.00; LW: 5). No change.
6. Big Ten (0.00, 4.25; LW: 6). No change.
7. ACC (0.07, 3.57, LW: 8). UNC, NC State, and Florida State are all at home for non-conference slates against either independents or non-BCS teams. This is partially offset by Clemson and Georgia Tech hosting FCS teams, the second one for each of those teams. This doesn't bode well for Clemson, even if it was a last-minute change.
8. SEC (-0.21, 3.29; LW: 7). It wasn't quite as bad as I thought it would be, but in the worst weekly showing that I can remember, Alabama, Florida, and South Carolina are all hosting FCS teams. Absolutely disgraceful nonetheless. It was this week last year that got Alabama back into the top 2 of the BCS standings when Kansas State lost and Bama took advantage of an FCS team. These three teams should all be ashamed of themselves.
9. Pac-12 (0.00, 3.00; LW: 9). No change.
10. Big 12 (0.00, 2.80; LW: 10). No change.

Okay, SEC fans, you can start reading again. I get the supposed benefits of hosting FCS teams, but they shouldn't count in the standings (I give them minimal impact for the purposes of playoffs)and they definitely shouldn't be played this late in the season, given what happened last year.

For now, this is it on the college side of things. I'll have NFL picks up for you on Thursday.
