It was a mediocre week for most of us, with a number of hero picks on the docket. Ultimately I couldn't gain any ground at the top as Adam and I split our six disputed games. We're pulling away from the bottom though as Adam took four of six from Joe and I swept the two games we disputed.
Jim had the best week of all of us, which enabled him to pull into a three way tie for first place. I remain in striking distance, just two games off the pace. The gap is starting to widen at the bottom as 11 games separate the top from the bottom, and I have a four game lead on the folks behind me.
You can view how we've all picked in relation to each other here. The group as a whole split six hero picks this past week. Adam still has the most correct out of everyone but out of several more tries; I remain perfect at 4-0 when I've gone alone. Adam's group-high 12-6 mark in Superminority games (where just he and one other person picked a team) has helped buoy him, Geoffrey has a dominant 22-11 mark in Majority (4-3 split) games, and Jim has a similar 19-11 mark. We went 0-2 on consensus games this past week, and while we're still over .500 in that category, it's been trending downward.
As we get to feast this holiday, Adam and I disagree on half of the 16 game slate, Joe and I on five games, and the two of them on seven.
From all of us at Confessions of a Sportscaster, have a Happy Thanksgiving! Let's get to the picks.
Thursday Morning
Chicago Bears @ Detroit Lions (-11.5)
Lucas: Lions. Okay, let me double check my notes here... yeah, Waning Crescent moon, the Lions are fine. Caleb Williams has looked really good the last couple of weeks, but he's not going to be able to overcome Dan Campbell playing 5D chess while Matt Eberflus is playing Hi-Ho Cherry-O and spinning on the dump out the bucket space every other turn.
Adam: Lions. Once upon time, a traveler came upon a sad man. The traveler asked, “Man, why are you sad?” And the man looked up with a gaze of both fright and terror, with a quivering lip, rasped out, "I am a Bears fan and we played the Lions this week..."
Lucas note: I love this imagery. Not in a mean, "LOL, Bears still suck" way, but in the mental picture that this story drew.
Joe: Bears.
Thursday Afternoon
New York Giants @ Dallas Cowboys (-3.5)
Lucas: Cowboys. The Giants have the opportunity to do the funniest thing ever. Unfortunately, the Derp has spread too far; not even Tommy Cutlets can save them.
Adam: Giants. Little does Jerra know, but the Giants' terrible performance last week was only to make the ecstasy of their victory over the “Bovine Brigade”, “Beefy Bovine B****es” (we are still workshopping) Heiferlaides that much more glori-wait for it-ous.
Lucas note: That second one might be onto something. Let's keep at it.
Joe: Cowboys.
Thursday Night
Miami Dolphins @ Green Bay Packers (-3.5)
Lucas: Packers.
X gonna take it from ya
byu/Exciting_Attitude240 inGreenBayPackers
Adam: Dolphins. They're just looking much better since Tua came back. Seems like a good game that will bounce Miami’s way. I know its going to be cold, and warm teams in cold weather sometimes don’t perform as well, but I’ll still take Tua and Hill.
Joe: Packers.
Friday Afternoon
Las Vegas Raiders @ Kansas City Chiefs (-13.5)
Lucas: Raiders. Okay, I'm not sure what the sharps are seeing. Yes... the Raiders are terrible. But if you need a last second drive to overcome the Panthers... you should not be a two touchdown favorite, especially since this has been a trend all season. Taking the points.
Adam: Chiefs. But please, a moment of silence for Gardner "The Magic Man" Minshew.
Lucas note: I only recognize one Majik Man.
Sunday, Early Afternoon
Los Angeles Chargers @ Atlanta Falcons (+1.5)
Lucas: Chargers. Now that the Harbaugh Bowl is past, Liquid LA can get back to staying competitive for a playoff spot against a slumping Falcons team.
Adam: Falcons. With Dobbins hurting his knee this past Monday, and Atlanta on the return from its bye, just seems ripe for a home W and cover from the Falcons.
Joe: Falcons.
Pittsburgh Steelers @ Cincinnati Bengals (-2.5)
Lucas: Steelers. Now that we had the Mike Tomlin Clunker Special we get at least one or two of a year, this should be a bounceback. The BS is real, and the Bengals defense is real... bad.
Adam: Bengals. The Steelers are coming of a let down and are in for another tough divisional battle. Also with the Bengals fighting for their life at this point, they need this way more than Pittsburgh does.
Joe: Bengals.
Arizona Cardinals @ Minnesota Vikings (-3.5)
Lucas: Vikings. I waffled a bit on this, given that the Vikings blew an 11 point lead with under 30 seconds to go, but they've been able consistently the past few years to eke out some tough games. We're saving the fraud argument for the playoffs.
Adam: Vikings. Home game, coming off a tough overtime game against the Bears.
Joe: Vikings.
Indianapolis Colts @ New England Patriots (+2.5)
Lucas: Colts. Sorry, New England, I can't anymore.
Adam: Colts. A meh game that I have already given too much attention to.
Joe: Colts.
Seattle Seahawks @ New York Jets (+2.5)
Lucas: Seahawks. This line should be higher. Moving on.
Adam: Jets. Because we need more reasons to hate the Jets formerly brought to you by A A Ron. I jest, until he gets moved on from next season and become the new starting QB for *checks Favre notes* Minnesota.
Lucas note: We're still short a [expletive] pic scandal at this point.
Joe: Seahawks.
Tennessee Titans @ Washington Commanders (-5.5)
Lucas: Commanders. Washington is due for a bounceback, and against a Titans team that got up for a big rivalry win (and one that was due given the fraud perpetuated for months by the Strouds), I just see a letdown here.
Adam: Commanders. Washington is on the slide and need a game to bring them back. This seems like the spot. Tennessee is ready to have a letdown after a tough win over Houston.
Joe: Commanders.
Houston Texans @ Jacksonville Jaguars (+4.5)
Lucas: Texans. Should be a decent enough bounceback here for the Strouds.
Adam: Texans. Speaking of Houston, I’ll take them after losing that tough battle to Tennessee. The Texans should have beaten them easily and just weren't firing on all cylinders. Look for a comeback game here. Stroud and Nico for 150 and two scores.
Joe: Texans.
Sunday, Late Afternoon
Los Angeles Rams @ New Orleans Saints (+2.5)
Lucas: Saints. Partially revenge for years back, partially me being all aboard for Darren Rizzi.
Adam: Saints. 5-6 Rams against the 4-7 Saints, at home, less than a field line and as of writing time on ESPN a 75-25 split for Rams over Saints. This is ripe for taking the dog and running marching with the Saints.
Joe: Rams.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Carolina Panthers (+5.5)
Lucas: Buccaneers. I could go either way here, but I'll opt for the Panthers having a letdown after giving KC all it could handle.
Adam: Buccaneers. How is this line only 5.5? I don’t care that they almost beat KC. The Chiefs are a proverbial "We will only play just better than our competition." Tampa Bay easy.
Joe: Buccaneers.
Philadelphia Eagles @ Baltimore Ravens (-2.5)
Lucas: Eagles. What's the over-under on combined rushing yards between Saquon and the Euphoric Violet Gazelle? 300? 350?
Adam: Ravens. Nevermore. Fun trivia question, what was the name of the ship Star Trek fox Seven of Nine was assimilated on? The USS Raven. No further explanation needed.
Joe: Ravens.
Sunday Night
San Francisco 49ers @ Buffalo Bills (-6.5)
Lucas: Bills. Don't think it'll matter how healthy the Niners are here; even if Purdy can go I don't see the Bills dropping this one.
Adam: Bills. Given how San Francisco has looked with their team that is a walking bandage. Bills by a mile.
Joe: Bills.
Monday Night
Cleveland Browns @ Denver Broncos (-5.5)
Lucas: Broncos. Though Jameis will probably make this a hell of a game.
Adam: Browns. I’ll give it to the Browns now that they went from the guy that was a creep to the guy that is a preacher. I swear, he doesn’t even listen to the question just goes into the next Bible verse he can think of and spins it to make sense.
Joe: Broncos.
