2019 NFL Championship Weekend Preview

It was another chaotic week at work, so I’m late getting these on record. But Adam just got me his picks, so we’re back to pick the conference championship games!

Formatting edits have been made to this post after the fact for readability. No changes have been made to the predictions.

NFC Championship

Los Angeles Rams @ New Orleans Saints (-3.5)

Lucas: I like this Rams team, but they’ve been contained by good defenses, and the Saints haven’t allowed a 75 yard rusher all season. Meanwhile you have a resurgent Drew Brees and a good run game for New Orleans. Combine that with this game being played in the Dome and I like the home team here. Saints 31, Rams 20
Adam: In an exciting game, Brees shows us why he is the real GOAT. Oh, and have you checked his stats when in the Dome? Redic. But today, I think there will be a little bit of a different story. Don't get me wrong, Brees will be awesome and manage the game perfectly, but Kamara shows up in a big way. I am going out and saying we see a pedestrian 170 yards and three scores from Kamara. Brees adds another couple to Thomas and one to Ginn Jr to round out the scoring. I see this game starting slowly but ramping up quickly for the Saints. An early defensive stop by New Orleans will end up being the difference. Saints 42, Rams 35

AFC Championship

New England Patriots @ Kansas City Chiefs (-3.0)

Lucas: I like what Kansas City brings to the table now that they’ve ended their home playoff win drought. But the Colts were one thing; the Patriots are a different animal. The Chiefs won in Foxboro last year and almost did again this year. But the playoffs aren’t the regular season, and the Pats are a different animal here. There’s also some fun history here: the Patriots went 3-5 on the road this year. In the Super Bowl era, only two teams with losing road records have made the big game: the 2008 Cardinals and 2010 Packers. The other connection between those two teams? Both beat Andy Reid’s Eagles en route to the Super Bowl. Give me a third. Patriots 34, Chiefs 31
Adam: This year has not been about Touchdown Tom, but rather about the Patriots in general. A refreshing look. And on player in particular has been exceedingly quiet this year: Gronk-a-lonk. He had only three touchdowns and just shy of 700 yards in the regular season, a terrible year by his standards. Well, I think we see the sleeping giant awoken again. Gronk for 145 and two scores. I know what you are all saying to yourselves: "But Adam, the weather conditions in KC are supposed to be horrible,”  and to you I say, "Blood Moon....Blood Moon." I see this game as playing out quite exciting. A true battle of grit and determination that is only won by sheer dominance and experience. Touchdown Tom takes the Pats 85 yards in the last two minutes to secure the win. Patriots 35, Chiefs 33
