2016 NBA/ABA Tournament of Champions: Consolation Bracket Day 14

Today, we get a second "semifinal" to determine our championship matchup in the tournament's Consolation Bracket.

Two weeks ago, we had the 32 teams that finished anywhere from fifth through eighth place in their Group Play groups enter this double elimination tournament. We're down to three teams now, as we have to determine who gets a shot at the top overall seed in this bracket.

Home court advantage goes to the team with the better record in Group Play because of the seeding tie. Today's simulation is provided by WhatIfSports.com. Let's play some basketball and set up a title game.

Loser's Bracket

(5) '93 Chicago Bulls 121, @ (5) '86 Boston Celtics 112
The Bulls committed 18 turnovers, but shot 50.5 percent from the floor and scored 40 points in the opening quarter to put the Celtics on their heels from the get-go and earn a berth in the Consolation Championship Game. Michael Jordan put up 31 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists for Chicago, B.J. Armstrong scored 23 points, Scottie Pippen added 11 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists, and Horace Grant finished with 17 points and nine rebounds. They overcame 24 points, eight rebounds, and nine assists from Larry Bird, while Robert Parish added 20 points and 10 rebounds, Kevin McHale chipped in 15 and nine, and Dennis Johnson logged 14 points and nine assists for the Celtics.

And so our championship matchup is set. It's a disappointing end for the '86 Celtics, who were a semifinalist in last year's NBA Tournament of Champions, to not only have to settle for the Consolation Bracket but also end up not even making that bracket's title game. For the Bulls, who missed the cut last year, it's redemption. They get a shot at the '95 Rockets tomorrow for the title!
