2021 COAS Pigskin Pick 'Em: Week 6

The coalition is back at it now that we're into the second quarter of the season, and while I had a better week... it didn't amount to much.

Last week Adam took four of seven disputed games, including the rubber match on Monday night, to increase his column lead to six, and he has a two game lead among the whole group. You can view how we've picked in relation to each other here. The main difference to date? I've sucked at hero picks, while Adam has been really good, even with the high volume of them last week.

This week, Adam and I disagree on just three games out of 14. Let's get to it!

Thursday Night

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Philadelphia Eagles (+6.5)
Lucas: Buccaneers. My gut says to take the Eagles, so naturally given my luck in Thursday night games I need to go the opposite and take the Bucs.
Adam: Buccaneers. I feel like this line should be a touch more. Maybe an overreaction to the Eagles' win over Carolina.

Sunday Morning

Miami Dolphins vs Jacksonville Jaguars (+3.5)
Lucas: Jaguars. If they're gonna get one, I feel like this is the one.
Adam: Jaguars. With the heat off Urban's pants (the news not the chick), I think this game is ripe for Sunshine to explode.
Lucas note: Wait, is she still on his pants?

Sunday, Early Afternoon

Green Bay Packers @ Chicago Bears (+4.5)
Lucas: Packers. I wavered a bit on this one, what with Mason Crosby's yips resurfacing briefly in Cincy, but then I reminded myself that this will be one of the sterner tests the Justin Fields/Bill Lazor tandem will face, and with both sides a little banged up, I'll favor the god tier quarterback over the rookie, especially since the god tier quarterback has his ultimate anti-Bears weapon back.

Adam: Packers. Last week Green Bay just ekeed out a win over a better than expected Bengals team; the Bears also won against the Bengals in a close game, so you would think this is a close game. But this is a game that everyone gets hyped about and the cannon that is AARONS arm will prevail by six.

Cincinnati Bengals @ Detroit Lions (+3.5)
Lucas: Bengals. Thoughts of luck are on my mind with this one, mainly stemming from a bit of a Twitter exchange with Geoffrey on Sunday, starting with this one tweeted when Evan McPherson doinked a go-ahead field goal with 25 or so seconds left in regulation. The Bengals are due for some better luck; the Lions aren't because they're the Lions.

Adam: Bengals. I said it last week: the Lions are the best 0-5 team out there... but Cincy is legit this year too. I see the Bengals by just four, and maybe even a late field goal to make that too.

Houston Texans @ Indianapolis Colts (-10.5)
Lucas: Colts. I keep underestimating Indy, and I need to stop. Maybe they're this year's Good Bad team? I don't know, I just hope Rodrigo Blankenship isn't too injured to hell to make me regret this.
Adam: Colts. Bossman Joe just wants another shout out, so here you go. He said this was a hard line, and at first, I was like maybe, then said no and went with Houston, but then doubled back and am going with Indy. My thought was maybe Indy would have trouble with their kicker like they did on Monday night. They should have won that game in regulation, too. But then I thought no, this game isn’t even going to have kicks matter.
Lucas note: Joe, you know you have an open invite to chime in here, right?

Los Angeles Rams @ New York Giants (+10.5)
Lucas: Rams. Screw it, we'll take back to back double digit favorites. I'd normally be leery of the road one, but the Giants are injured to hell and back now. Let's do it.
Adam: Rams. Wow, did you see that hit on Jones? Dang. Now they have to put their hope in *checks notes* Mike Glennon. Damn.

Kansas City Chiefs @ Washington Football Team (+6.5)
Lucas: Chiefs. I was going to make this note about how Super Bowl losers always seem to have a hangover the following year, but recent history seems to suggest that's not entirely true; there's a lot of wins in the wild card round before bowing out on Divisional Weekend. I don't want to bet that that's the fate of the 2021 Chiefs... but I feel like that's going to be the fate of the 2021 Chiefs.
Adam: Chiefs. No words, I wouldn’t want it to end up in any email chain anyway.

Minnesota Vikings @ Carolina Panthers (-1.5)
Lucas: Vikings. Minnesota has played pretty well thus far; I'll stick with them on the road here.
Adam: Vikings. How is Carolina a favorite? I don’t see this game being close at all. I once praised Sammy boy on his rejuvenation, but dang, these last couple o' weeks. Minnesota by 10.

Los Angeles Chargers @ Baltimore Ravens (-3.5)
Lucas: Ravens. Did you know Lamar Jackson ranks 14th in the NFL in total yards? That's if he were his own team, by the way.

Adam: Chargers. LA will shut down the Ravens like they have done to just about every team but the Browns.

Sunday, Late Afternoon

Arizona Cardinals @ Cleveland Browns (-2.5)
Lucas: Cardinals. I don't think I've ever been so fast to take a road dog in a pick 'em scenario, and that's saying something. #CardsAreHot
Adam: Browns. That Browns offense is real. They're the first team to score 40-plus, have over 400 yards and no turnovers and still lose the game. They carry that on their shoulder and pounce on the Cards early. It will be a good struggle, but the Browns prevail by a field goal or better.

Las Vegas Raiders @ Denver Broncos (-3.5)
Lucas: Raiders. Okay, before you get after me about "How can you pick a team that employed an [expletive]head like Jon Gruden," hear me out. The pieces are still here against an overrated Broncos team, and I feel like Vegas can come together in an "Us against the world" mentality, at least in the short term. Long term, they're screwed though.
Adam: Raiders. By no means am I suggesting what Gruden did was in any way acceptable, but he is also by no means the only one. But also the Broncos do not deserve to be a favorite in this game.

Dallas Cowboys @ New England Patriots (+4.5)
Lucas: Cowboys. Someone make Dem Boyz stop. Please.
Adam: Cowboys. All the Fan boys are getting chubbs just thinking about this Cowboys offense. Someone had the audacity to put the Cowboys in category as great... I by no means think it is bad, but I am just waiting on the other shoe to drop. It always does in Dallas.

Sunday Night

Seattle Seahawks @ Pittsburgh Steelers (-4.5)
Lucas: Steelers. Get well soon, Russ.
Adam: Seahawks. Do I want no finger boy, or man who cannot move in the pocket. I take messed up finger for 500, Alex. And yes, I know that Geno Smith is the quarterback now.

Monday Night

Buffalo Bills @ Tennessee Titans (+5.5)
Lucas: Bills. A Titans team that seems almost overrated now against probably the odds-on favorite out of the AFC? Come on.
Adam: Bills.

Lucas note: Hey, that's what the chairs at my office do when I get the "We need this spot!" email from a station that got what they were asking for a week ago!

Records So Far
Lucas: 37-43 (9-7 last week)
Adam: 43-37 (10-6 last week)
Joe: 39-41 (8-8 last week)
Geoffrey: 40-40 (9-7 last week)
Jim: 41-39 (7-9 last week)
