2021 COAS Pigskin Pick 'Em: Week 3

The coalition returns for its third week of the year picking NFL games against the spread!

If the pattern of even/odd years is holding true, this past week was not a good omen, as Adam took four of six disputed games, the difference being a couple successful hero picks, to take a two game lead. He and Joe are tied among the group at large, while I'm in a three way tie two games back of them.

You can view how we've all picked in relation to each other here. This week, Adam and I disagree on just four games out of 16.

Thursday Night

Carolina Panthers @ Houston Texans (+7.5)
Lucas: Panthers. Can we talk about just how freaking unlucky Tyrod Taylor's career has been?

Adam: Panthers. Ram Rod Taylor to the IR and Houston still refuses to play Watson, so a rookie QB is next up to get crushed. In all seriousness, McCaffrey will run roughshod on this game.

Sunday, Early Afternoon

Washington Football Team @ Buffalo Bills (-8.5)
Lucas: Washington. Not that I don't have faith in the Bills; I'm just not sure they'll win by this much. Probably from a stupid taunting penalty or something. Sometimes I hate the NFL.
Adam. Washington. I don’t see the Bills losing this game, but they have had somewhat of a slow start. Not by much, maybe a back door cover or something; I'm just taking the points and hoping.

Chicago Bears @ Cleveland Browns (-7.5)
Lucas: Browns. This is kind of a tricky line. But with the timeline on Justin Fields accelerated, I don't know how much faith I have here. Part of that stems from seeing a Facebook ad for McDonald's with Matt Nagy on it that I thought at first was a meme calling for his firing or something. Then during the Monday Night game I saw a TV spot for it and I realized it's a whole Chicagoland campaign now. Advertising is weird, man.

Adam: Browns. At home in Cleveland, with Justin Fields likely to start (or at the very least see a lion's share of the snaps), last week’s effort was less than stellar. He has some growing to do. So I see a decent game, but one that slides away from the Bears covering late.

Baltimore Ravens @ Detroit Lions (+9.5)
Lucas: Ravens. Okay, if they can't stop Rodgers/Jones, how is Detroit going to stop a potent Ravens attack? I'll lay double digits on the road.
Adam: Ravens. Dang, talk about disrespect. Basically a 10 point dog at home. Eh, what am I talking about, the Lions suck. Bet Goff wishes he was back in LA.

Indianapolis Colts @ Tennessee Titans (-5.5)
Lucas: Titans. I feel like I owe Adam some money given Carson Wentz went down earlier than I'd figured. Side note: hurting both ankles in one go?

Adam: Titans. Whats this? Wentz hurt... with not one but two sprained ankles. Didn’t I say something last week about Wentz and getting hurt like this? Hmmmmm.

Los Angeles Chargers @ Kansas City Chiefs (-6.5)
Lucas: Chargers. Taking the points, which means Mahomes is about to have a day. Awesome.
Adam: Chargers. You know who is giving the Chiefs more L's than their football team? Annoying loud mouth Brittany Mahomes. Dang girl, shut up. Chiefs win, but Chargers keep it close.

New Orleans Saints @ New England Patriots (-2.5)
Lucas: Patriots. Who authorized Jameis to reopen The Bakery? Because go figure, it reopens and the Superdome catches fire.

Adam: Saints. In a virtual pick ’em game with the Pats getting the customary 3 points, I like the way Winston has been playing so far and they also have this guy you may have heard of.

Atlanta Falcons @ New York Giants (-3.5)
Lucas: Giants. Ladies and gentlemen: your 2021 Atlanta Falcons.

Adam: Falcons. I mean come on, the Falcons cannot be that bad are they? I feel like every year I have such high hopes for Matty Ice Ice Baby, but he just falls flat. Maybe the $$$ he is getting from that terrible commercial I have seen will help light him up.

Cincinnati Bengals @ Pittsburgh Steelers (-4.5)
Lucas: Steelers. Joe Burrow is going to die behind this offensive line. You know who the Bengals should take a mid-to-late round flyer on? The best offensive lineman in D-III.

Adam: Steelers. Not much to say here. The Bengals are decent this year, but nothing compared to the Steelers.

Arizona Cardinals @ Jacksonville Jaguars (+7.5)
Lucas: Cardinals. Let's stick with the theme and stay behind my fellow red bird team. I missed you, Little Brass Bell.

Adam: Cardinals. I thought Sunshine would shine last week, but no, he did not. Things won’t get any easier this week with Murray and crew invading Jacksonville.

Sunday Late Afternoon

New York Jets @ Denver Broncos (-10.5)
Lucas: Broncos. If you'd told me Denver would be a double digit favorite, even at home, this early in the year I'd have thought you were crazy... but here we are. And here I am taking them. That's what a poor Zach Wilson outing does, I guess.
Adam: Jets. Did you catch the presser last week where the media was asking Zach Wilson if he was seeing ghosts?! Hahahahaha. Denver wins easy, but I see the Jets covering.

Miami Dolphins @ Las Vegas Raiders (-4.5)
Lucas: Raiders. Tua's out for Miami, Carr is questionable as of Wednesday for The Raiders and Josh Jacobs is more of a question mark. I do reserve the right to invoke one of my mulligans though if Carr can't go and Vegas has to go with *checks notes* NATHAN PETERMAN?!
Adam: Raiders. Miami was the recipient of another injured quarterback last week. No worries, Sid Derek Carr will lead the way against Miami in epic fashion. Dare I say MVP talk for him? ...Nah let’s not get crazy.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Los Angeles Rams (-1.5)
Lucas: Rams. Brady and the Bucs aren't going 17-0; they're going to have a clunker or two. Put me down for one here.
Adam: Rams. Man, this is tougher than I thought. Joe texted Lucas and I saying this was going to be a great game. At first I thought, "Nahh, easy peasy lemon squeezy." But now that I am forced to pick, I am going against my initial reaction. Stafford is enjoying something of a renaissance in LA and I am going to roll with it.
Lucas note: I guess you could say this pick was...

Lucas note: ...I'll let myself out now.

Seattle Seahawks @ Minnesota Vikings (+1.5)
Lucas: Seahawks. I originally wrote something here about a Russell Wilson revenge game, totally forgetting that we had not one, but two outstanding calls on the Vikings... well, Vikinging.

Adam: Seahawks. Help, what am I missing with this line? Is there an injury or a player on COVID IR? Why is this line only 1.5? Seems like too easy of a pick, but only giving 1.5 on the road, thank you.

Sunday Night

Green Bay Packers @ San Francisco 49ers (-3.5)
Lucas: Packers. Okay, I'm off the panic train after watching a nice second half adjustment, some nice plays by rookie Eric Stokes, and Aaron Jones going bonkers. Thank God someone found his dad's ashes in the end zone.
Adam: Packers. Who is the running back for the 49ers now? Maybe they should put in a Refrigerator Perry-style running back. Or call the Santa’s Sleigh a la the Bears a few years back... but no, seriously. A A Ron recovered nicely after his Week 1 bomb, and that continues.

Monday Night

Philadelphia Eagles @ Dallas Cowboys (-3.5)
Lucas: Cowboys. Is Dallas actually *gulp* good? I think it's too early to tell for sure, and I'm still betting they'll be around .500 this year, but Philly isn't that good.
Adam: Eagles. Everything tells me that the Cowboys should run roughshod over the Eagles, and that is exactly why I am going to take the Eagles. Once they flub this up, they will have officially moved into being call the Cowgirls going forward.

Records So Far
Lucas: 14-18 (6-10 last week)
Adam: 16-16 (8-8 last week)
Joe: 16-16 (9-7 last week)
Geoffrey: 14-18 (7-9 last week)
Jim: 14-18 (6-10 last week)
