2022 COAS Pigskin Pick 'Em: Week 8

The coalition is back at it once again as the calendar is about to flip to November and we start to approach the halfway point of the 2022 season!

This was a much better week on the whole for the coalition, partially because we hit on four of our five consensus picks for the week, and most of us did enough with the rest of the slate to put up respectable numbers. You can view how we've all picked in relation to each other for the season here, though it took me three or four tries to get these numbers right when I was updating following Week 7. Seems in line with our consensus numbers for the year to date, as the strong outing we all had could only do so much on that front.

Column-wise, I took three of four from Adam last week and split my four disputed with Joe, while Joe swept his two disputed games with Adam. I did just enough to stay in first place among the group, but only barely. I'm also including Adam's updated sheet with how we've picked home/road favorite/underdog games, as well as our daypart splits.

As we look ahead at the final October games on the schedule, Adam and I disagree on six games out of 15, Joe and I on four, and Joe and Adam on four. Let's get to it!

Thursday Night

Baltimore Ravens @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+1.5)
Lucas: Ravens. Can... can we count out Touchdown Tom yet?
Adam: Ravens. Can anyone trust anything with the initals TB right now? Also in other news, you can purchase shirts of Giselle and AB hugging with all proceeds going to fatherless children...

Joe: Buccaneers.

Sunday Morning

Denver Broncos @ Jacksonville Jaguars (-3.5)
Lucas: Jaguars. Okay, technically it's not primetime, but isn't it a war crime to subject a foreign country to washed up Russell Wilson as the only game in its timeslot?
Adam: Jaguars. Tough go last week for Sunshine; came up like a yard short. He then had to run off into the sunset with his long flowing locks... ehm, yeah he's going to win. Jacksonville goes to their home away from home, London, and romps.
Joe: Jaguars.

Sunday, Early Afternoon

Carolina Panthers @ Atlanta Falcons (-6.5)
Lucas: Falcons. I'm not sure the Panthers will be able to follow up that big win over Tampa, even if the Bucs are down. Atlanta's been feisty, too.
Adam: Panthers. Goes to show there is no such thing as tanking... or maybe they just ran into Old Man Tommy and his butterfingered friend... Or maybe it’s the ATL just isn’t anything to worry about.
Joe: Panthers.

Chicago Bears @ Dallas Cowboys (-9.5)
Lucas: Cowboys. I'm not overreacting to what was essentially one half against a mediocre team. The Bears got a nice taste of what may come, but for now... snap back to reality.
Adam: Bears. This game depends on what Bears team we get. I think they may have figured something out last week against New England. I also still think Dak is way overrated, but 9.5 points? I’ll take the points easy, hoping for a backdoor straight win.
Joe: Bears.

Miami Dolphins @ Detroit Lions (+3.5)
Lucas: Dolphins. Amazing how in just a few weeks all the goodwill Detroit had built up is just... gone. And with Tua seemingly back at least for now... this one could get ugly.
Adam: Dolphins. This seems like a short line; must be the stock three points given to the home team situation. No matter, Tua played well last week despite only being 2 weeks off back to back concussions...
Joe: Dolphins.

Arizona Cardinals @ Minnesota Vikings (-3.5)
Lucas: Vikings. Looking forward to seeing how they break their fans' hearts this January.
Adam: Cardinals. "And there was a fire fight…and upon the earth rained fire from the heavens."

Lucas note: Okay, I've never seen Boondock Saints, but suddenly I'm glad I literally just started my rewatch of Hellsing Ultimate Abridged.
Adam note: Serious question: which QB has the most passing yards? I say Murray over Cousins 375 to 350. Next question: which receiver has more receiving yards, Jefferson or Hopkins? I say Jefferson 175 to 125.
Lucas note: Oh, 100% Murray out-throws Cousins, but I'd probably put the margin even higher, though I think part of that is Arizona running out of running backs. As for receiver... probably agree.
Joe: Vikings.

Las Vegas Raiders @ New Orleans Saints (+1.5)
Lucas: Raiders. Tae, thank you for paying attention on your way out this week.

Adam: Raiders. Adams leaving the field last week... lol it was priceless.
Joe: Raiders.

New England Patriots @ New York Jets (+1.5)
Lucas: Jets. Watch out, MILF Hunter... you have some competition. Not in this game, but afterwards...

Adam: Jets. I know the Jets just lost their lead back, but they have the ultimate weapon: The MILF Hunter 3000. Also cannot help but laugh that Belichick’s first chance at taking 2nd place for most wins by a coach and fully passing Bears legend George Halas, the Bears whooped up on his team. I see him falling short again here.
Joe: Jets.

Pittsburgh Steelers @ Philadelphia Eagles (-10.5)
Lucas: Eagles. Rough approximation of how I expect this game to go, minus the obligatory Super Smash Bros sound effect that should accompany every video like this:

Adam: Eagles. The line almost makes me what to take Pitt, but I like Philly too much. I’ll lay the 10.5 and hope they cover.
Joe: Eagles.

Sunday, Late Afternoon

Tennessee Titans @ Houston Texans (+3.5)
Lucas: Titans. In what I'm hoping is a sign that the Succubus hasn't finished with the City That Sold Its Soul.

Adam: Titans Texans. I see O Henry continuing his 3 game 100 yard streak. He was held out of the endzone too last week, but I don’t see that happening this week. Henry for 175 and 2 scores. Making the change with Tannehill out. Probably going to regret it but did it. That makes two changes for me.
Joe: Titans.

Washington Commanders @ Indianapolis Colts (-3.5)
Lucas: Commanders. Let's see, Taylor Heinicke going up against *checks notes* Sam Ehlinger? I've been waiting for the perfect time to drop some Sabaton in here, and the time is now. Also, Tina Guo is best cellist; you can't change my mind.

Adam: Commanders. When did the NFC East become a powerhouse? 3 teams over .700 and an overall division win percentage of .740! Indy has “benched” the injured Matty Ice in favor of Ehlinger. But hold your horses, Napoleon is running back up. You know what happens when he is back up...
Joe: Commanders.

San Francisco 49ers @ Los Angeles Rams (+1.5)
Lucas: 49ers. Because until Christian McCaffrey goes down with his inevitable injury, I'm gonna ride the hot hand.
Adam: 49ers. As Joe Lucas called him, Run CMC will have his full potential unleashed and it will be epic.
Lucas note: Edited this to give myself the proper credit, dadgum it.
Joe: 49ers.

New York Giants @ Seattle Seahawks (-2.5)
Lucas: Seahawks. Ah yes, the one game in Week 8 between teams with winning records; just like we all predicted two months ago. I'll ride the home team here.
Adam: Giants. Seattle has played better than expected this year, but who doesn’t love picking against Pete Carroll.
Joe: Giants.

Sunday Night

Green Bay Packers @ Buffalo Bills (-10.5)
Lucas: Bills. I should have stuck with my gut last week, because naturally, the movie I'd seen each of the prior two weeks was the exact same movie I saw this past week. At least this week's film will be different as Josh Allen stars alongside Aaron Rodgers. From the studio that brought you Sunday Night Massacre; Sunday Night Massacre II: The Reckoning, and Sunday Night Massacre III: I Still Own You, comes a surprising twist to your favorite franchise.

Adam: Packers. I don’t like it, I want to lay the points, but I just see this as a bounceback game. Also a game that Green Bay needs before all faith in A A Ron goes out the window.
Joe: Bills.

Monday Night

Cincinnati Bengals @ Cleveland Browns (+3.5)
Lucas: Bengals. OK, I'm tapped out of gold for this week. Sorry, Factory of Sadness.
Adam: Bengals. Not much to say here, I like Cincy’s offense. It also doesn’t hurt that I have one or two major playmakers, other than Burrow, on just about every fantasy team I have.
Joe: Bengals.

Records So Far
Lucas: 49-59 (8-6 last week)
Adam: 44-64 (6-8 last week)
Joe: 43-65 (8-6 last week)
Geoffrey: 45-63 (9-5 last week)
Jim: 47-61 (10-4 last week)
Tom: 48-60 (9-5 last week)
