2021 COAS Pigskin Pick 'Em: Week 18

And so it all comes down to this. Or at least, that's what I wish I could say as we get ready for the final week of the regular season.

Instead, while I wasn't paying super close attention to our scores for the week I got a gloating text from Adam asking if I knew what 0/6 meant. Obviously, he swept our six disputed games last week and I find myself likely needing to cheat if I have any hope of catching him.

Odd year magic means another win for Adam. I'm content with where I'm at, but at this point my goal is to finish in second. On the plus side, I'm guaranteed to finish no worse than .500 for the season. If we were betting money on every game, I'd be about breaking even for the year. Not too shabby.

You can view how the coalition has picked in relation to each other here. As we make our picks for the final time in the 2021 regular season, Adam and I disagree on seven games out of 16. I think at this point, I can safely say: congratulations to our 2021 Pigskin Pick 'Em champion. Let's get to the picks.

2020 COAS Pigskin Pick 'Em: Week 14

The coalition is back as we enter the fourth quarter of the season and... oh hey, look at those standings!

For the first time since Week 7, I'm back in the group lead after taking four of our five disputed games. Adam had another picking error on ESPN this week... but this time it worked out as he wasn't given a point he should have been given, which means his two mistakes have now evened out and his score there is accurate. I, however, still have one more point on ESPN than I should.

You can view correct standings, in addition to how we've picked in relation to each other, here. There's one again a fairly clear dichotomy in the group, as Adam is right behind me, with Geoffrey Clark in the hunt as well. Joe and Jim would need miracles to catch up at this point.

This week, Adam and I disagree on just four games out of 16. Hopefully we have no postponements that could throw the integrity of this off. Let's get to it!

2019 COAS Pigskin Pick 'Em: Week 5

With the conclusion of tonight's game, we will hit the quarter pole of the 2019 NFL season. And with that thought in mind, the coalition works its way into its fifth week of work!

The early slate was not kind to much of the group, but we all rebounded fairly well in the late afternoon slate and beyond. Adam and I, for our part, split our eight disputed games as he retains his three game column and group lead. We're starting to separate ourselves from the pack a little bit, though Week 4 saw a surge from Aiden to create a little bunch at the bottom of the group. You can view the full group standings here, and a comparison to how we've all picked compared to each other here.

We have another bye this week, so of the 15 tilts on the slate, Adam and I disagree on a record 12 of them. Needless to say... some major changes in the standings could be forthcoming. Let's get to the picks!

2019 AFC Preview

We're just two days away from the start of the 100th NFL season, which means I have to finish up my preview series!

Yesterday I tackled the NFC as I condensed everything down for this season into two posts instead of eight. As I've done in years past, I will still do a little bit of a dive into each team along with my prediction for their season. At the end I will reveal my full playoff picture for the AFC.

You also have a couple days to get into the annual Confessions of a Sportscaster Pigskin Pick 'Em contest! Adam and I are renewing this feature for its sixth year (eighth overall going back to the origins of this), so check back here every week for our picks against the spread!

Without further ado or shameless plugging, let's look at the AFC.

2018 COAS Pigskin Pick 'Em: Week 7

Week 7 was a much better showing for the coalition than Week 6 was, and thus we saunter on in our quest to correctly pick NFL games against the spread.

I redeemed myself following my worst week ever, taking three and a half of the six and a half disputed games between Adam and myself; his refusal to pick the Seahawks-Raiders game in London this past week gave me a free point and now has me up two games on him. Note that in the records below, the game Adam refused to pick is being counted as a loss; it's easier than trying to consider it a tie and means I don't have to refuse to pick a game to try and even things out. Disregard the fact that the ESPN standings have him within one game of me; those are off due to a picking error that is accounted for.

Looking at the rest of the group, Kristen is still hanging onto her narrow lead in the group that she's held since Week 2. Her comment: "You don't need to know anything about football. Also, football is stupid." I agree to an extent with her first comment, seeing as the standings speak for themselves, but I disagree with the second. She has her reasons though, and I fully understand them.

Her brother Joe remains just a game back, and they've got a reasonably comfortable cushion on the rest of us. You can see how we've all picked in relation to each other here. There are a couple fun stats from there that I want to share: collectively the group has gone hero 22 times; Adam's wife Jen has half of those (and got six of them right so far), and Joe remains the only one yet to go hero. But when we all agree... we suck. We have six consensus picks so far this year; we've missed all of them.

Moving on to Week 7, Adam and I disagree on seven games out of 14. Let's get to it!

2018 AFC North Preview

We're 10 days away from the start of the NFL season, which means it's time for me to start looking into what I think will happen in the upcoming year!

I've plugged this a little bit already as the summer winds down, but the annual Pigskin Pick 'Em contest is back for its seventh year, and for the fifth year in a row Adam Quinn and I will present our picks every Thursday of the season. It's a project I'm once again looking forward to.

But in the meantime, I'm going to go through every team over the next eight weekdays and make my predictions. As usual, I will go division by division, alternating conferences until I end with the division holding the defending champion. The way I originally scheduled this had my home division predictions going up on Labor Day, and because I'd like to have a little more chance for web traffic, I'm opting to start in the north, and since an NFC team is champion, that means we start this series with the AFC North.

2017 AFC North Preview

The NFL preview circuit rolls on as we swap conferences, but stay in the north!

I'm hitting up every division over the next several weekdays, with Saturday and Sunday off, even though Monday is Labor Day and a holiday because that's just how the timing works out.

This is also shameless plug time, as Adam Quinn and I will be picking games against the spread once again this season. If you would like to join us and try to beat us, you can do so here.

On to the previews.

2016 COAS Pigskin Pick 'Em Week 7

I had a decent bounceback week in Week 6 of our consortium's picks against the spread, but unfortunately I haven't gained any ground.

Adam and I split our six disputed games last week, leaving us where we were the week before. He has a nine game lead over me and remains in first place, maintaining a three game lead over my cousin Grant. Meanwhile, I'm still in last place, though I picked up a couple games on my dad and Logan to keep everyone reasonably well packed in together.

We've got another two teams on bye this week, leaving us with 15 games to pick. Adam and I disagree on five games on this week's slate. If you want a breakdown of how everyone has picked in comparison to each other, I've got an updated breakdown available here.

COAS Pigskin Pick 'Em Week 7

The coalition is back at it again! Week 7 of the NFL season is upon us, and with it, another set of picks against the ESPN spread!

Adam finally broke the Curse of the Even Weeks, while I saw my first sub-.500 week since Week 2. It was bound to happen, but I'm still about on pace with a coin flip. Adam also won the week head to head, as he took four of the six games we disagreed on. I still hold the lead on him overall, but I'm not in first in the group anymore, as we had someone go 13-2. He missed two games we all missed, so there's no shame in the two losses there.

This week Philadelphia and Tampa Bay have the byes, so we have a 15 game week again. Adam and I disagree on five of those, so Adam has a chance to retake the lead. Part of this will depend on if he learned one of the rules of gambling. See below for details.

Let's get to the picks!

COAS Hands Out 2013 NFL Awards

Photo from fanpop.com.
It is said that all good things must come to an end. That means that the 2013 NFL regular season had to. There was a lot of drama all the way through and plenty of games that decided playoff fates of nearly every team in the NFL. I got to see a thrilling game send my Packers to the playoffs when Aaron Rodgers escaped a sack and found a wide open Randall Cobb for the game winner. A lot of Bears fans (including a couple at work) have been extremely classy today. And then there's the idiots that you find on the Internet who are blaming the refs for what came down to Green Bay executing when it mattered most.

Hopefully I won't be as much of an idiot on the Web. Looking back at predictions, I feel dumb about a few things (picking the Vikings at 9-7, underrating Kansas City, San Diego and Arizona), but I nailed a few teams right on the money, so there's that. Ultimately, I think I only got about half of the playoff teams correct though.

Anyway, like I did last year, I'm going to give my (unofficial) votes for the major NFL awards. It's been pretty accurate so far, but I'm certainly open to other guys winning that I don't give my vote to. Let's get to the results.
