2021 NCAA Playoff Points: Week 4

Through four weeks of the season, we're starting to get the slightest bit of separation around the country in college football. But with 26 teams still unbeaten at this stage, there's still a long way to go before we can narrow the country down to a field of 16 for the Death to the BCS Playoffs.

So while we work on narrowing that down, let's look at the past weekend's results and how that has the conferences stacking up through four weeks of action.

To no real surprise, the SEC is once again cleaning house in these metrics. For all the crap they get about being an overrated conference, year in and year out, the numbers don't seem to lie. This is why they get a bunch of the at large bids for the Death to the BCS Playoffs. Meanwhile, the MAC just barely got out of the basement in PP2, but remains there in all other categories.

Looking around the country at team leaders in individual numbers, Michigan is the first team to double figures in both PP1 (and obviously aPP as an unbeaten). Georgia and Arkansas are tied for second with eight points apiece. The Wolverines are tied for second with Boise State in PP2 with 3.50 points; the current leader, which shows how this metric needs context, is one win Georgia State, with 4.00 points.

Important to remember is that these numbers you see above are through four weeks of the season. Each week's results get added on to a team's numbers, but by updating win totals, prior weeks' numbers change as well, so that Week 1 win that meant nothing for your score early on can turn into a huge boon if that team ends up finishing the regular season 11-1.

I'll be back later today with a look at the Week 5 schedule and see what's left in the way of non-conference games!
