I was a little worried early in the day on Sunday, as I fell behind early, but rallied back late, to split the four games I had disputed with Adam. Adam retains a two game lead on me in the column, and a one game lead on Jim and Joe among the entire group.
You can view how we've all picked in relation to each other here. This week, Adam and I disagree on a season high seven games out of 16.
Thursday Night
Jacksonville Jaguars @ Cincinnati Bengals (-7.5)
Lucas: Bengals. I'm pretty sure in my text thread with Joe and Adam, one of them sent the picture of Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne showing what their record would be this season. And at this point now... I'm not entirely sure they even hit that mark.
Adam: Jaguars. Not the shining start Sunshine wanted; he currently sits at five touchdowns and seven interceptions through three games. That sets him on a pace for 28TD/40INT - eeekkkkk. No matter, Bengals win but Jags with a backdoor cover. Cincy is also my points survivor pick this week.
Sunday, Early Afternoon
Washington Football Team @ Atlanta Falcons (+1.5)
Lucas: Falcons. When your only win is against a bad Giants team, I don't totally trust you. Gonna take Atlanta here.
Adam: Falcons. Talk about disrespect. Atlanta a 1.5 dog at home... I don’t see it. Maybe we can have another watermelon onside kick to win the game! Who remembers that?
Houston Texans @ Buffalo Bills (-16.5)
Lucas: Texans. Just taking the points as I look forward to a 30 point drubbing that results in me being wrong.
Adam: Bills. Umm, All Bills All day, that is all.
Detroit Lions @ Chicago Bears (-2.5)
Lucas: Lions. Okay, yeah, I've beaten this horse to death already this season, but screw it, I'm taking it a step further. To hell with the Flying Dragon. If Nagy wants to revolutionize his offense, he should just go all out: Golden Flying Dragon and put Fields, Foles, and Dalton all out there at the same time. If Nagy is gonna go down, go down in flames of glory.
Lucas note: Not to rub salt in the wound... who am I kidding, yeah, it's to rub salt in the wound.
Justin Fields on 25 dropbacks:
— Daire Carragher (@DaireCarragher) September 26, 2021
- 5 completions, 58 yards
Jordan Love on 8 career dropbacks:
- 5 completions, 68 yards
Carolina Panthers @ Dallas Cowboys (-4.5)
Lucas: Panthers. I mean, Dallas has to get to 8-8-1 somehow. Going up against a Panthers team that's looked really good so far helps, especially since Dallas more or less stomped Philly in spite of Mike McCarthy, who put on a master class from the Andy Reid School of Clock Management in the first half on Monday night.
Adam: Cowboys. So sad we didn’t get to see another “just check in on dem boys” meme from NFL Memes. But what can you do? Should be a good game that could have 40+ for both sides written all over it. but I am going with the home team here.
Indianapolis Colts @ Miami Dolphins (-1.5)
Lucas: Dolphins. Can we call this an early Injury Bowl?
Adam: Colts. Yes, Indy is 0-3, but look who they have played (Seattle, Rams, Tennessee). This should be a little bit of a softer spot and I like Indy to cover. And maybe win, but in any case they keep it close.
Cleveland Browns @ Minnesota Vikings (+2.5)
Lucas: Browns. Myles Garrett with a 4.5 sack game? Amateur. I got like 10 in a single game with one of my corners in my now ancient Madden franchise. Though I don't think that was the same game as one in the season I just finished where I sacked a Falcons quarterback 32 times... and even that isn't my best defensive performance ever in Madden. Anyway, I expect the Vikings will protect Cousins better than the Bears protected Fields, though it won't be enough.
Adam: Browns. I feel like this line is a little bit of an overreaction to the Vikes' win last week. Yes, they won by 13 over Seattle, but even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while. Browns win going away.
New York Giants @ New Orleans Saints (-7.5)
Lucas: Saints. Never bet against God, puppies, or first home games involving cancer/natural disaster survivors. Although I'm not sure if this counts double in the instance of the combination of hurricane hitting New Orleans and the Superdome catching fire.
Adam: Saints. Maybe one of the surprise teams, at least for me, this season is just how well New Orleans has held it together. I don’t love giving 7.5 to a Giants team that has some weapons, but at home, ehhh... I’ll take a chance.
Tennessee Titans @ New York Jets (+7.5)
Lucas: Titans. You know what I haven't used with a Titans pick in a while?
Kansas City Chiefs @ Philadelphia Eagles (+7.5)
Lucas: Chiefs. Mahomes Revenge Game?
Adam: Chiefs. Ring the alarm: Ding... Ding... Ding... Smoke-A-Dope signs with the already loaded (pun intended) Chiefs and will join their high flying (more pun intended) receiver corps. But the real question: how many games will he actually play before getting suspended? Over/under at 3.5. I’m taking the over, but just.
Lucas note: Same.
Sunday, Late Afternoon
Arizona Cardinals @ Los Angeles Rams (-5.5)
Lucas: Cardinals. This will be a nice test for Kyler Murray and company, but I like them to hold their own here. They may not win, but I think they cover.
Adam: Rams. This will be a good game. But as I have said before, Stafford is enjoying life outside of the Lions. LA will cover but just barely.
Seattle Seahawks @ San Francisco 49ers (-2.5)
Lucas: 49ers. Granted, they won't have Jerome Boger Incompetence Advantage again, but I like them in a pick 'em scenario here.
Adam: Seahawks. Another good game. Just picking Wilson over Jimmy G here.
Baltimore Ravens @ Denver Broncos (-1.5)
Lucas: Ravens. Sorry, Denver.
Adam: Ravens. If Tucker can hit a 66-yard field goal in Detroit, I bet that same kick would have been good from 70 in the rareified air of Denver. Too bad we will not need to find out and the Ravens will stomp the way overhyped Broncos.
Pittsburgh Steelers @ Green Bay Packers (-6.5)
Lucas: Packers. One of my favorite memes begets another.
Adam: Steelers. My gut says to play Green Bay here. And who hasn’t seen the video of Big Ben basically falling over his feet? But I like the cover here. Don’t know why.32 secs … too much time #packers #greenbay #rodgers #davante pic.twitter.com/BgixDnM1m2
— Nelson (@NelsonxLiborio) September 27, 2021
Lucas note:
Sunday Night
Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ New England Patriots (+6.5)
Lucas: Buccaneers. Look, if you don't think Touchdown Tom is joining Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, and Drew Brees as the only quarterbacks in NFL history to beat all 32 NFL teams on Sunday, you're crazy.
Monday Night
Las Vegas Raiders @ Los Angeles Chargers (-3.5)
Lucas: Raiders. Taking the points due to the Chargers special teams eff-up we're probably due for.
Adam: Raiders. Coming off the high of beating the Chiefs last week I see this as a letdown game. Plus I have to let Sid run roughshod to get his MVP nod. He is leading with over 1200 yds passing this year... just saying.
Records So Far
Lucas: 23-25 (9-7 last week)
Adam: 25-23 (9-7 last week)
Joe: 24-24 (8-8 last week)
Geoffrey: 23-25 (9-7 last week)
Jim: 24-24 (10-6 last week)
