No one really separated themselves and we're all pretty bunched up through 16 games. For the column's part, Adam and I split our four disputed games last week as we finished .500 through the first slate. Jim matched our total, with Joe and Geoffrey sitting just one game back. In the words of Lovie Smith, "We have a lot of football left to play."
You can view how we've picked in relation to each other here. It was a hero-heavy week, as nine of the 16 games were hero picks, five of which were successful. Let's see if that will become a trend.
So without further ado, let's get to Week 2. This week, Adam and I disagree on six games out of 16.
Thursday Night
New York Giants @ Washington Football Team (-3.5)
Lucas: Washington. Don't really have an opinion here, just taking the home team.
Adam: Washington. NFC East battle. Not sure there is much to say other than I like Sunday, Early Afternoon
Cincinnati Bengals @ Chicago Bears (-2.5)
Lucas: Bears. A step down in difficulty should mean an easier time for the Bears. Though I have no idea what Nagy was thinking using Fields as a gadget guy. If you're going to use him as a gadget guy though, go all out and run the freaking Flying Dragon already. I will shout this from the mountaintop forever until it happens.
Adam: Bears. Did the Bears do anything against the Rams? Not really. The one bright spot was seeing Fields mixed in, including a touchdown. The future looks bright. And this may be the Bears only W in the first five or six games.Lucas note: Well, maybe the Lions too.
Houston Texans @ Cleveland Browns (-12.5)
Lucas: Texans. Tyrod Taylor looked pretty good in Week 1; I feel like this line is more an overreaction to a turbulent Texans offseason than anything else. Browns by a touchdown or so thanks to a late backdoor cover.
Adam: Browns. I know, I know, I know, double digit lines are bad. Week 2 is often an overreaction. But the Browns, even sans OBJ, are leaps and bounds better than the Texans.Los Angeles Rams @ Indianapolis Colts (+3.5)
Lucas: Rams. Now that Stafford actually has a team around him, are the Rams Super Bowl contenders? I say yes.
Adam: Rams. Being a road favorite is logical after the Rams rammed the Bears last week on Sunday night. This will be a close game that may feature Wentz’s annual injury. This is about the time it happens, right?Lucas note: I mean... he's missed a dozen games in his career, and last year lasted until Week 13. He's brittle, to be sure, but we may have a little time here.
Buffalo Bills @ Miami Dolphins (+3.5)
Lucas: Bills. Looking at a bounceback game for Buffalo here.
Adam: Bills. What a piss poor start by Allen and the Bills. Perhaps I underestimated the Steelers, but I see the Bills to rebound and in a big way. Allen for 350 yards and four touchdowns.New England Patriots @ New York Jets (+5.5)
Lucas: Patriots. Never go full Darth Hoodie.
Adam: Patriots. Gut play. I’m not in love with either team and don’t really like the line.Lucas: Patriots. Never go full Darth Hoodie.
San Francisco 49ers @ Philadelphia Eagles (+3.5)
Lucas: Eagles. New year, same old story. With Raheem Mostert and Jason Verrett out for the year, it could be a long one in Santa Clara.
Adam: 49ers. Just saw that the 49ers have lost Mostert for the season, so that could be big. And Hurts and the rest of the Eagles did fly high. So call this a gut play again; I already made the pick and I’m not so compelled to change it.Las Vegas Raiders @ Pittsburgh Steelers (-5.5)
Lucas: Steelers. Tough call here, but I'm going to go with my hunch here that the Raiders will have a letdown game after that emotional swing on Monday night. I mean, look at the win probability chart!
Adam: Raiders. The Raiders are who we thought they were.Lucas note: And we let 'em off the hook! *walks off*
New Orleans Saints @ Carolina Panthers (+3.5)
Lucas: Saints. Purely an overreaction to a "Holy s***" game from Jameis. I think he outduels Darnold.
Adam: Panthers. Sam “I saw Ghosts” Darnold to the rescue. Sam will gather his Scooby Squad and solve the mystery: how in the eff New Orleans held the Packers to only 3 points and won in blowout fashion.Lucas note: Important question: which Scooby gang are we talking here? OG late-'60s? Later versions with Scrappy? '90s-'00s movie/What's New Scooby-Doo? Or some of the more recent entries? These are the questions that matter. Imma go back to binging my way through Mystery Incorporated.
Adam note: OG Scooby Squad, of course. All the others are posers.
Denver Broncos @ Jacksonville Jaguars (+6.5)
Lucas: Broncos. I miss the days when this game was a four touchdown spread.
Adam: Jaguars. Sunshine to rule the day. First home game and suffering his first ever regular season loss fires him up.Lucas note: I know this got brought up preseason in some memes and whatnot, but can we talk about that fact? How impossible is that? You know, except for basically every kid that's played for Mount Union since 1995, seeing as they've lost one regular season game in that time, and made it to at least the semifinals from that year up until...
Hey guys...we’ve got a game next week. #WeAreNC #d3fb pic.twitter.com/CiqoKPcCBd
— NCC Cardinals (@NCC_Athletics) November 30, 2019
Sunday, Late Afternoon
Minnesota Vikings @ Arizona Cardinals (-4.5)
Lucas: Cardinals. Let's see, the division that all won last week against the division that all lost... tough choice.
Adam: Cardinals. Everyone got a piece of the pie last week. Heck, I even heard Larry Fitzgerald got in on the action from his couch.Atlanta Falcons @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-12.5)
Lucas: Falcons. Partially an indictment of a Bucs defense that struggled in the opener, partially me being scared of that line even though Falcons gonna Falcon. Speaking of the opener...
Adam: Falcons. What kind of egg did the Falcons drop last week? Maybe they took a cue from Eagle Man and looked at those low scores.Dallas Cowboys @ Los Angeles Chargers (-2.5)
Lucas: Cowboys. Dak must've talked to my boy Aiden Chang in the offseason. Tough times don't last, tough people do.
Adam: Cowboys. This game could come down to a last second field goal or be a lambasting by half. I am expecting the latter, with Dak Attack and Team putting up huge numbers.Lucas: Cowboys. Dak must've talked to my boy Aiden Chang in the offseason. Tough times don't last, tough people do.
Lucas note: Fun fact: Adam almost always refers to them as the "Heiferladies" but actually went with Cowboys of his own accord this week. Maybe I should put in for a wellness check.
Tennessee Titans @ Seattle Seahawks (-5.5)
Lucas: Seahawks. Somewhat of an overreaction to Week 1, but also refusing to go against that home field advantage in Seattle.
Adam: Seahawks. At home, giving less than a touchdown. Easy call for me here, even with the explosive ability of Henry.Sunday Night
Kansas City Chiefs @ Baltimore Ravens (+3.5)
Lucas: Chiefs. This should be fun, but I don't have a ton of faith in a Ravens team that blew a winnable primetime game against the Raiders. Up the difficulty level, even at home, and I'm not confident in them.
Adam: Chiefs. Back to back games that have the ability to see two teams score 40-plus. Last week the Browns and Chiefs kept each other “at bay”. KC wins relatively easily, but still a fun game.Monday Night
Detroit Lions @ Green Bay Packers (-10.5)
Lucas: Lions. Look, this is a pure "taking the points" pick. Nothing more.
Adam: Packers. A A Ron will “fake” an injury because he really really really wants to be the new Jeopardy host. You heard it here first.Records Last Week
Lucas: 8-8
Adam: 8-8
Joe: 7-9
Geoffrey: 7-9
Jim: 8-8
Lucas: 8-8
