2021 NCAA Playoff Points: Week 9

Nine weeks are in the books, and we only have about a month left to go before the Death to the BCS Playoffs begin.

At this point we're starting to get a pretty clear separation, and it's going to be getting harder and harder to pick at large teams. But we'll worry about that as we get closer.

The big change, at least from what I see, was the Big Ten jumping. I think a lot of that stemmed from a bunch of the leaders starting to play each other, which is going to result in some jumps here, and we see that with the conference third in wins but at least tied for the lead in every Playoff Point category. It's a bit of a drop for the SEC, who in fairness, did have a ton of byes this past week to slow their advance.

As we move to look at individual leaders, Georgia is starting to run away with this race at 37 PP1 and aPP, leading both categories. Michigan is second in both with 30 points. Notre Dame and BYU are right behind in PP1 with 29 points; the Irish have a matching total of aPP, while BYU has 24 points in that metric. Boise State remains atop the PP2 list despite a 4-4 record with 17 points, followed by Wisconsin at 15.40 points. Notre Dame is the top team among the contenders with 14.43 points, good for fourth nationally, while Georgia is sixth with 13.38 points.

I'll be back tomorrow with a look at the Week 10 schedule, especially since MACtion is back!
