2020 COAS Pigskin Pick 'Em: Week 6

A day later than usual, the coalition is back as we continue our quest to pick NFL games against the spread!

It's been a chaotic past couple weeks in the NFL with COVID forcing some postponements of games, which has cut the number of games down a couple, while also giving us some Tuesday Night Football this past week. That chaos also pushed Thursday Night Football back a few days this week, hence why this got posted on a Friday instead of a Thursday.

In amidst last weeks chaos, I took four of six disputed games from Adam to take the group lead outright. It would befit the alternating year pattern Adam and I have established since he joined me, but there's still a ton of games left to play, so I'm not counting my money just yet. You can view how the coalition has picked in relation to each other here.

This week Adam and I disagree on only three games out of the scheduled 14. Let's get to it!

Sunday, Early Afternoon

Atlanta Falcons @ Minnesota Vikings (-3.5)
Lucas: Vikings. That's assuming this game even gets played given that the Falcons just had to shut their facility down with positive tests.
Adam: Vikings. A little surprised that this line is not a few points higher, but the Falcons are capable of putting up some points as well. Given the rebound of the Vikes last week though, I am happy to lay the points. Lets just hope they kick the field goal this time on fourth and 1.

Chicago Bears @ Carolina Panthers (-2.5)
Lucas: Bears. I'm sorry, but I don't think the Panthers should be favored in this game. The Bears have been really lucky to this point to get to 4-1, but they deserve some credit too. Khalil Mack still scares me.
Adam: Bears. I shall trust our great commander Napoleon to lead us into battle, crush the enemy and seize victory.

Cincinnati Bengals @ Indianapolis Colts (-7.5)
Lucas: Colts. I got proven badly wrong last week, but there's a... significant step down from the Browns to the Bengals. Have fun, Joe Burrow.
Adam: Colts. This must be the week of "These lines don’t make sense" as here's another one I thought would be a point or two higher: the Colts at home giving a TD. McCallister has been playing well, but not against this stonewall D.

Cleveland Browns @ Pittsburgh Steelers (-3.5)
Lucas: Browns. I think it's safe to say Cleveland is legit at this point, right? Only a year late.
Adam: Browns. I have flip-flopped on this game about half a dozen times. Both teams are capable of winning, both D's are capable of stopping the other... ahhhhh. Fine, the Browns.

Denver Broncos @ New England Patriots (-8.5)
Lucas: Patriots. Okay, let's try this again. Gilmore's probably still out, but Newton is back practicing, and I don't really trust Denver here. I'll lay the points.
Adam: Patriots. With Cam back, this game should be well in hand by the half.

Detroit Lions @ Jacksonville Jaguars (+3.5)
Lucas: Jaguars. I don't like this game; just taking the points.
Adam: Lions. So, the Jags set an NFL record this year: apparently, no team, until this Jags team, has ever lost 3 games in a row to teams without a win at the time they played. Congrats to you, Jags. Lucky for you the Lions do have a win, or it would be 4 in a row.
Lucas note: That's an interesting nugget. Kind of surprised it's never been done before.

Houston Texans @ Tennessee Titans (-5.5)
Lucas: Titans. Good lord, Tennessee looked like they didn't skip a beat. I'm surprised Josh Norman (soul) isn't on Buffalo's injury report.
Lucas note: Fun side note: the metadata for that GIF is "EuphoricVioletGazelle," which may be what I'm calling Derrick Henry now.
Adam: Titans. OK, I’ll say it again, this line does not feel right; it's about 2-3 points low in my opinion. Regardless, the Titans recently added The Hulk to their team, and he proceeded to Hulk Smash Norman to the ground.
Lucas note: "Euphoric Violet Gazelle" is better.

Washington Football Team @ New York Giants (-2.5)
Lucas: Giants. Look, they weren't winning last week; the football gods just wouldn't allow it. I figure they finally get one this week.
Adam: Washington. Not sure if he is stating this week, but mad props to Alex Smith for his dedication to the game and getting back on the field.

Baltimore Ravens @ Philadelphia Eagles (+7.5)
Lucas: Ravens. Have fun, Lamar.
Adam: Ravens. Really, only 7.5?! Wow, the week of "I don’t get these lines" continues. I would have thought double digits on this game for sure. I guess the Eagles are getting the token three points for home field.

Sunday, Late Afternoon

New York Jets @ Miami Dolphins (-8.5)
Lucas: Dolphins. What a dumpster fire. The Jets didn't even seem like they bothered to get anything back for Le'Veon Bell and instead just let him walk. I know, his salary, whatever, but still.
Adam: Dolphins. Wow... just... wow. The Fins destroyed the 49ers in San Francisco last week! Well, looks like that was more of a function of Jimmy G not being at 100% than Miami really being that much better, but the Jets are not at all good and just had to cut the Bell Cow as there were no takers for a trade. SMH.

Green Bay Packers @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+1.5)
Lucas: Packers. Let's see: old man Brady who took over the Bakery and forgets how many downs you get, or a dude who has no turnovers through four games? Come on.
Adam: Packers. Basically, a game to just pick the winner. The Bucs haven’t won against anyone of the Packers' caliber. Also Brady will have to be working with a new QB coach this week. He’s from the street and he knows how to count.

Sunday Night

Los Angeles Rams @ San Francisco 49ers (+3.5)
Lucas: Rams. I keep saying it: BRING BACK BROC RUTTER!
Adam: Rams. For two reasons. One, the Rams' D is better than the 49ers' D if looking at total yards given up from ESPN. Two, the Niners' loss to Miami is borderline embarrassing for them with Jimmy G ailing.
Lucas note: It's not just total yards either; the Rams have allowed fewer points and yards per play. Not a by a lot, but still.

Monday Night

Kansas City Chiefs @ Buffalo Bills (+3.5)
Lucas: Chiefs. You know what a surefire way to see that Mahomes is just Rodgers' son (and I don't mean it in a "Rodgers is your daddy" way)? See if he pulls out a Revenge Game a la Rodgers. I think he will.
Adam: Chiefs. Surprisingly, both teams undefeated going into last week and both exited with L's. While not surprising one of the two lost, it is a little surprising that they both lost. The Bills will be too busy mopping Norman off the grass and Kermit will *ribbit* roll *ribbit* easy *ribbit*.

Arizona Cardinals @ Dallas Cowboys (+2.5)
Lucas: Cardinals. I'm not gonna take a potshot here, but I don't trust Andy Dalton, even with a full week of prep, against a Cardinal team that bounced back this past week. Get well soon, Dak. Reach out to my boy Aiden Chang; dude had basically the same injury and was back playing again like himself the following season (warning: tweet below contains NSFW language).
Adam: Cowboys. While I've not shied away from giving the Cowboys flack and ribbing Dak, he will truly be a great loss to the NFL this year. He was on an insane pace to average 375 passing yards a game. That was an over 6000 yard pace for the year. Props.

Records So Far
Lucas: 46-31 (9-5 last week)
Adam: 44-33 (7-7 last week)
Joe: 40-37 (8-6 last week)
Geoffrey: 41-36 (5-9 last week)
Jim: 40-37 (7-7 last week)
