2025 COAS Pigskin Pick 'Em: Week 6

The coalition returns for Week 6 of the NFL season, and I think it's official: The Great Reversal has begun.

I say this mainly because it was a pretty rough week for the group as a whole. No one finished above .500 for the week, a couple folks are now below .500 for the season, and yet just seven games separate first from last place. This bears out what happened in the column last week: Joe and I split our two disputed games, while Adam narrowly won the week, taking five of nine from each of us.

You can view how we've all picked in relation to each other here. As you would figure from the nine disputed games figure, Adam had several hero picks this week, but he ended up missing on a couple. As tends to be the case, his volume is higher than the rest of the group and he's hit on enough that it's helped him to first place. I hit on my first hero win of the season (albeit in a much smaller sample size). Meanwhile our consensus game rate remains at just a hair over .500.

So as we look ahead to this week, Adam and I disagree on seven games, Joe and I on four, and the two of them on five out of 15. Let's get to it!

Thursday Night

Philadelphia Eagles @ New York Giants (+6.5)
Lucas: Eagles. Philly hasn't played a complete game all season yet. Not that I think they'll need to in this one, but still.
Adam: Eagles. A Thursday night divisional game; should be interesting, maybe even close at half, but Filthy is the better team here and pulls away in the 2nd half.
Joe: Eagles.

Sunday Morning

Denver Broncos vs New York Jets (+7.5)
Lucas: Broncos. I'm so sorry, London. Please feel free to tariff our export of Jets football.
Adam: Jets. Its an effective road game for both in London. The Jets came back with some late fight against Jerra’s Heiferladies. Maybe more a line play than actually thinking the Jets have a chance, but here we go.
Joe: Broncos.

Sunday, Early Afternoon

Arizona Cardinals @ Indianapolis Colts (-6.5)
Lucas: Cardinals. First team to lose the ball at the 1 yard line on what should be a breakaway touchdown loses?

Adam: Colts. Ride them while they are high. They haven’t really played that difficult of a schedule so far, but are doing it in style. Tractor Taylor rides again.
Joe: Colts.

Los Angeles Chargers @ Miami Dolphins (+4.5)
Lucas: Chargers. After two collapses in a row, I think we regress to the mean. LA/B is somewhere in between what their first three weeks against AFC West rivals were and their last two games.
Adam: Chargers. This line seems awfully low for this game at only 4.5. I often say that when the lines seem off the odds makers usually know something, but I’ll still ride my gut and take the road Chargers.
Joe: Chargers.

Cleveland Browns @ Pittsburgh Steelers (-4.5)
Lucas: Steelers. Now that Flacco got traded, Shedeur just needs something to happen to Dillon Gabriel and Primetime will become the god of the new world.

Adam: Steelers. Again a line that seems off, and again I am going with my gut. Steelers by 10.
Joe: Steelers.

Dallas Cowboys @ Carolina Panthers (+3.5)
Lucas: Cowboys.

Adam: Panthers. I have been high on them all season. If they get Hubbard back I think this is cake; if not will be a grind but I still think they get it.
Joe: Panthers.

Seattle Seahawks @ Jacksonville Jaguars (+1.5)
Lucas: Seahawks. So again, I don't have numbers in front of me, but I'm invoking the old "West coast team going east" theory. That said, if memory serves, I think Seattle has vastly outperformed that metric over the years. Combine that with what may be a letdown game after what happened in Duval on Monday, and I'll lay the couple points.
Adam: Jaguars. Letting my Sunshine ride his blazing White Steed another week. Should be a good one, and maybe a spot for Jacksonville to fall down (See what I did there?) but no, they get up and punch it in for the cover. OK, maybe that was last week, but I like the Jags here.
Joe: Seahawks.

Los Angeles Rams @ Baltimore Ravens (+7.5)
Lucas: Ravens. Look, this is purely a points pick. It might be a risky one given that the Ravens just coughed up 44 to the Texans of all teams, but I just can't do it.
Adam: Rams. Jackson is hurt... well, everyone is hurt. I don’t like the line at 7.5 but will still take them right now... and Puka.
Joe: Ravens.

New England Patriots @ New Orleans Saints (+3.5)
Lucas: Patriots. Maybe we're due for a letdown in New England, maybe we're not. I don't know. But the Pats are better than the Saints.
Adam: Saints. Call this my upset special of the weekend. I like the Saints to put it all together and the Pats coming off an emotional signature win set up for a letdown. Saints outright, but who am I kidding, give me dem points too.
Joe: Patriots.

Sunday, Late Afternoon

Tennessee Titans @ Las Vegas Raiders (-4.5)
Lucas: Titans. This is purely a points pick. It also doesn't hurt that the Raiders might actually be worse than the Titans.
Adam: Titans. Tank Bowl. Nobody is watching and nobody cares. Next.
Joe: Raiders.

San Francisco 49ers @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-2.5)
Lucas: Buccaneers. Baker's gonna will this team to a top two seed in the NFC, isn't he.
Adam: Buccaneers. Am I missing something, is San Francisco just a really deep team to be only be getting 2.5 on the road? This an effective coin toss on a neutral field. I like Tampa here; they have played more gritty hardnosed games.
Joe: Buccaneers.

Cincinnati Bengals @ Green Bay Packers (-14.5)
Lucas: Bengals. Look, right now the Packers shouldn't be two touchdown favorites over anyone. Yes, this line came out pre-Flacco trade, and it's not like he looked great a few weeks ago in Cleveland against the Packers, but Green Bay also struggles out of the bye under Matt LaFleur and until they look like they did the first couple weeks again I can't trust them completely. They still win, but it'll probably be ugly.
Adam: Bengals. Welcome to Cincy Ol’ Man Flacco.
Joe: Bengals. But Green Bay wins.

Sunday Night

Detroit Lions @ Kansas City Chiefs (-1.5)
Lucas: Lions. Look, I'm not really pro- or anti- Taylor Swift, and I know nothing about her new album other than it exists. But this made me laugh.

Number of losses after a song’s released about your tight end’s genitals
byu/someguyonline60 inUrinatingTree
Adam: Lions. Ummm wait, I’m getting points? Yes sir. Take it to the bank.
Joe: Lions.

Monday Night

Buffalo Bills @ Atlanta Falcons (+3.5)
Lucas: Bills. I think they bounce back, especially since they won't be wearing those abominable uniforms that are a PA announcer's nightmare.
Adam: Bills. This line seems like a bit of an overreaction to losing to the Pats last week. The Bills are better. Probably like the Filthy comment above, this game will be close at half, but Buffalo will put them away in the 2nd.
Joe: Bills.

Chicago Bears @ Washington Commanders (-4.5)
Lucas: Commanders. One more time for good measure.

Adam: Bears. I wonder why this is in DC again... site of the play that tanked the Bears season... the Hail Mary... I am calling revenge game. And MNF to boot. Da Bears.
Joe: Bears. Revenge Game.

Records So Far
Lucas: 39-39 (5-9 last week)
Adam: 44-34 (6-8 last week)
Joe: 37-41 (5-9 last week)
Geoffrey: 39-39 (5-9 last week)
Jim: 40-38 (6-8 last week)
Tom: 37-41 (5-9 last week)
